The Jets have a one-game lead on the Patriots in the AFC East division standings heading into play on Sunday afternoon, thanks to a five-game winning streak punctuated by a 34-13 win over the Titans last weekend. New York is now 8-3 straight-up and 7-4 against-the-spread on the season, and they’re 7.5-point home favorites Sunday versus the Broncos. Denver is at 6-5 SU and 3-7-1 ATS.

The Patriots took care of the Dolphins 48-28 last week behind the arm of Matt Cassel and the hands of Randy Moss, and New England is a 1-point home favorite on Sunday against the Steelers. The other marquee contest on Sunday has the rival Giants and Redskins clashing in Washington, with the Giants pegged as 3.5-point favorites as they try to win their seventh consecutive game.

Elsewhere on the NFL’s schedule for Sunday: San Francisco at Buffalo (-6.5), Baltimore (-7) at Cincinnati, Indianapolis (-5) at Cleveland, Carolina at Green Bay (-3), Miami (-9) at St. Louis, New Orleans at Tampa Bay (-4), Atlanta at San Diego (-4.5), and Kansas City at Oakland (-3). As well, the primetime matchup has the Bears playing in Minnesota, with the Vikings listed as 3.5-point favorites.

The Toronto Raptors will be in tough on Sunday night as they play in Los Angeles against the West-leading Lakers. There are also a couple of early games on the hardwood on Sunday, with Portland at Detroit at 3:00pm ET, and Chicago at Philadelphia at 5:00pm. Making up the rest of the NBA’s Sunday slate are Houston at Denver and New Jersey at Phoenix, with both starting at 8:00pm.

The Rest of the Schedule

Notable college hoops action on Sunday includes UNC-Asheville at No. 1 North Carolina, Western Kentucky at No. 3 Louisville, Rice at No. 6 Texas, Furman at No. 8 Notre Dame, and Missouri-Kansas City at No. 17 Florida. As well, tourneys such as the Old Spice Classic and the Anaheim Classic will continue; check your favorite books for up-to-date matchups and lines for those tournament contests.

Finally, there are just four games on the NHL’s Sunday schedule, with Florida at the Rangers, St. Louis at Atlanta, Edmonton at Dallas, and Anaheim at Carolina.

It could be a distraction as Tom Coughlin and Eli Manning have a tough contest against the Washington Redskins…Oklahoma, Texas and Texas Tech are in a three-way tie for the Big 12 South…More calls for the firing of Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis after the non Fighting Irish were humiliated again by USC…Sylvester Croom resigns as head coach at Mississippi State, while Tennessee lame duck coach Phil Fulmer goes out with a win.

A Peek at the Future

Monday Night Football this week is a matchup of two disappointing AFC South teams – the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Houston Texans. Both of those teams are 4-7 on the season, with Houston favored by 3 points at home on Monday . . .  the NBA starts its December schedule with three games on Monday night, as Minnesota is in Charlotte, Boston hosts Orlando, and Miami visits Golden State.
