Tipping off on the hardwood . . .

The NBA offers up just four games on Monday, with Philadelphia at Dallas, Memphis at Utah, Indiana at Golden State, and Chicago at Milwaukee. The Bulls (6-8 SU, 4-10 ATS) fell 105-86 in Utah in their last game on Thursday, with Luol Deng scoring a team-high 26 points and Derrick Rose adding 19 points in the loss. The Bucks (8-7 SU, 9-6 ATS) are coming off a 100-98 home loss to Orlando on Saturday night. Ersan Ilyasova had 20 points and 16 rebounds in that defeat.

As well, the top team in action in college hoops on Monday is Kentucky, which hosts N.C. Asheville. The Wildcats (6-0 SU, 2-3 ATS) beat Stanford 73-65 in the championship game of the Cancun Challenge last time out, with John Wall scoring 23 points. Other ranked teams in action on Monday include Syracuse, which plays host to Colgate, and Georgetown, which gets a visit from Mount St. Mary’s. The Hoyas sit at 4-0 SU and 1-1 ATS through four games on the season.

Taking a trip around the rink . . .

Finally, there are eight games on the NHL’s slate for Monday, with Washington at Carolina, Buffalo at Toronto, Florida at Atlanta, St. Louis at Columbus, Dallas at Detroit, Colorado at Tampa Bay, Calgary at Nashville, and Pittsburgh at the Rangers. The 18-9-0 Penguins routed the 13-12-1 Rangers by a score of 8-3 when the teams met in Pittsburgh on Saturday night. Sidney Crosby had a hat trick and two assists for the Pens in that win, while Evgeni Malkin had two points. Stephen Valiquette was in goal for the Rangers, allowing eight goals on 33 shots.

Cyber Monday Deals For Sports Fans Not as Good as ESPN Football Picks For MNF

Still the best way to earn extra bucks for that meal at the Bedford Post is with winning sports picks.

One of the best pro handicappers Matt Rivers says go with the over in the Patriots-Saints game. SportsBook has the total at 56.5.

Let me preface this by saying that I am not a totals player because more times than not over-unders are crapshoots that can truly go either way. But tonight I do see some value in the over and will make a small play on said high.

The total is certainly extremely high and pretty much as hefty as you will ever see in an NFL game. It is asking a ton to get over this hurdle but in my professional opinion 40-37 is a lot more likely than 20-17 which leads to a far greater upside on that over.

Could the defenses rise up a bit and this game stay under the number? Sure it could as this is far from the lock of my life but we could also see 24-21 with these two offenses and one of those hindsight situations where this was never really in doubt.

You know that Drew Brees and the high flying Saints will put up points with Colston and Bush and Thomas and
Bell and Henderson and Meachem and on and on. You also know that one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game in Tom Brady will cause a ton of damage with Randy Moss and Wes Welker doing their thing.

Call me a square for sounding like every Joe Schmo that would call for this thing to go over. But at times those people are even right and I see this as being one of those times.

If this game is played 100 times I see it going over a lot more than 50 and that is the bottom line creating the value.

Rivers says bet the ESPN Monday Night Football Game over the total.
