Betting Notes For Saturday

Mayweather vs. Pacquiao odds are already being bet at record rates, but we focus on the here and now and college football betting notes.

Coaches are on the hot seat and teams are fighting for bowls. But some of the obvious motivation factors for football bettors are not always the biggest intangibles. Here are some news and notes to beat the college football odds for games of Nov. 21.

San Diego State vs. Utah

The Utes will be without their leading tackler Derrick Shelby for the rest of the season. He suffered a torn ACL in their loss to TCU last week.

Minnesota vs. Iowa

It’s a large revenge game for the Gophers. Last year Iowa handed Minnesota their biggest conference loss ever and second biggest overall when the Hawkeyes humiliated the Gophers 55-0 in the Metrodome.

Purdue vs. Indiana

The Hoosiers will also have plenty of motivation after losing 62-10 when the teams met last year. Purdue scored on their first ten possessions.

Colorado State vs. New Mexico

Something has to give. Colorado State, off a bye week, has lost seven in row. New Mexico is 0-10. Incredibly CSU started out 3-0 straight up.

UAB vs. East Carolina

After a 2-5 straight up start, Alabama-Birmingham has won their last three games by a combined 125-83. If they win their remaining two games, they will play in the C-USA Championship Game.

Connecticut vs. Notre Dame

If any team is clearly better than their record, it is the Huskies. Their five losses this year are by a combined 15 points.

Rutgers vs. Syracuse

Syracuse has scored just 19 points in two games since star WR Mike Williams quit the team. He was considered perhaps the team’s best player at any position.

TCU vs. Wyoming

Wyoming‘s starting QB is a freshman Austyn Carta-Samuels. He has already gone up against the other three top teams in the conference: BYU, Utah, and Air Force. The problem is Wyoming was outscored 84-10 in those games. TCU has beaten all three teams.

Kansas vs. Texas

Texas head coach Mack Brown admitted he wants to see more balance on offense—that is more running the ball. Cody Johnson is now the starter and redshirt freshman TreNewton the backup. Look for a higher percentage of running plays from the Longhorns.

Kentucky vs. Georgia

WR Randall Cobb, the Wildcats top offensive player is questionable. He sat out the last game and has practiced on a limited basis with a sprained thumb. He has 11 touchdowns including as the Wildcat QB.

SMU vs. Marshall

The Thundering Herd’s leading rusher Darius Marshall is a game time decision. He is especially needed with TE Cody Slate lost for the season. With a win SMU can client first place in the C-USA West Division. Marshall needs to win their last two games for a bowl birth.

Lay the points with Stanford -7 at BetUs Sportsbook against California.

It’s tough to lay a full touchdown to what is still a very talented California team. Plus I can’t come close to calling this game a value because about six or so weeks ago this thing may have seen the Golden Bears as the favorite but right now there is no hotter team than the Cardinal and in the end I will roll with them today.

Cal will once again be without their superstar in Jahvid Best and overall this season has been fairly disappointing. Jeff Tedford had a team that was expected to compete for everything, including possibly a national title, but things have not been as expected and right now to be honest with you the Bears are not much better than an average team in the Pac-10.

Last week Arizona outplayed Cal and should have won on the road but a terrible decision by their quarterback destroyed them late leading to the eight point loss. I watched the game and trust me Cal did not come close to deserving to win and cover that thing by almost double digits. This team was obliterated against both Oregon and USC and also had it handed to them a few weeks ago at home against Oregon State.

Certainly a 7-3 record is solid but it’s been a weak 7-3 for today’s visitors.

Meanwhile Jim Harbaugh’s team is rolling as much as a team could be rolling right now. They just embarassed both Oregon and USC the last two weeks combining for over 100 points in those games. The way Toby Gerhart has been running the ball has been beyond amazing and it’s not like you can just load the box with a young future star in Andrew Luck at the quarterback position.

Stanford has won three in a row and is 7-3 overall and 6-2 in the Pac-10. If not for imploding and blowing big leads at both Wake Forest and Arizona this team very very realistically would have only one loss all season long and be in the top seven or so in the entire nation.

I am a believer in what Harbaugh has done with this program and to get both Gerhart and Luck at home here makes me feel fairly comfortable in laying this number, even to a still semi dangerous Cal team.

College Football Betting Selections – SEC Picks

Vanderbilt Commodores @ Tennessee Volunteers
Sports Betting Odds: Volunteers -17

The Tennessee Volunteers will have to pick up the pieces after a couple of disasters – one on the field and one off of it. The Volunteers were absolutely destroyed by the Ole Miss Running Rebels as Dexter McCluster absolutely tore up the Vols defense. The end result was a 42-17 drubbing. Along with that loss, the Vols had two key members kicked off their team – and one more to come – as they were arrested for attempted armed robbery.

Now the Volunteers have to get their focus back on the field if they plan to salvage their season and get bowl eligible.

The Vols are 5-5 right now and they get a visit from the Commodores, who are the SEC’s worst team. They are 2-9 and they have no semblance of a passing game. Last week, the Vols were destroyed on the ground by McCluster but the Rebels also have a pretty good quarterback in Jevan Sneed. The Vols had to respect him but they won’t have to respect the pass with Vandy.

This should be a fairly easy win for Tennessee simply because Vandy might not score much – if at all. Look for Lane Kiffin and his crew to get back on track with a big home win and get into the bowl picture.

Sportsbook Review Pick: Volunteers -17

Kentucky Wildcats @ Georgia Bulldogs
Sportsbook Odds: Georgia -8.5

Both Kentucky and Georgia are having similar seasons and both are currently at 6-4 entering this contest, looking to improve their positioning.

The Bulldogs lost a bunch of stars to graduation but still have persevered to win two straight and get themselves into the bowl season. Meanwhile, Kentucky has lost a slew of key players to injuries but they also have gotten into the bowl mix with two consecutive wins (and wins in four of their last five). The similarities don’t end there as both teams beat Auburn and both were trashed by Florida.

You can expect an evenly matched, entertaining game between these two teams but both teams have key injuries. The Bulldogs will be without star wideout A.J. Green while Kentucky should be without quarterback Mike Hartline.

At home, look for the Bulldogs to edge out Kentucky and get a tight win.

Internet Betting Picks: Kentucky +8.5

NBA Spread: Take Grizzlies Over Sixers

If there was a national board certification for sports picks Matt Rivers would pass with flying colors as his picks have been looking better than Christina Ambers. Rivers says take the Grizzlies plus the points against Philadelphia. Sportsbooks have Philadelphia laying five points.

Eddie Jordan took over the reigns this season as the 76ers coach and to be perfectly honest with you this team has shown pretty much nothing. Philly is 5-6 SU but a poor 3-8 ATS with the only cover over the past few weeks coming a six point defeat as the seven point pup in Chicago. They have actually failed to cover in six of the last seven games.

I’m not sure if the 76ers are missing Andre Miller who moved on or what but these guys have just not been playing in any kind of rhythm. There is a lot of talent as Elton Brand is back somewhat healthy to complement a very good Andre Iguodala. Plus throw in some solid young kids like Lou Williams, Marreese Speights and Thadeus Young but there hasn’t been a lot of success thus far and even though the Grizzlies are far from being a good team they do have a lot more talent than people realize.

Memphis has some players. No that doesn’t always make for a good team and especially when a franchise has the losing culture which they do but Mayo, Gasol, Gay and Randolph can seriously stack up with almost any other four players on any team and with LeBron and the Cavs up next on Saturday for Philly I can see today’s home chalk look past Memphis a bit in this spot.

The bottom line is that until the 76ers outclass anybody at all I will go against them when they are a solid touchdown or so favorite like this.

Online sports pick: Memphis.
