Wise Guy

WASHINGTON (ZIMMERMAN -114) Kansas City (Davis)

KC has flopped, losing six straight and 9-of-11. Washington is playing very well on a 10-4 run. Jordan Zimmerman has strong numbers this season ERA and WHIP of 3.37 and 1.110.  Compare that to Wade Davis 5.43 and 1.751.  Zimmerman has a 31-9 night team mark the last two years.

Last five games Washington has a slugging percentage .422 to .299. In their last 10 games .413 to .279.  The Nats are 4-1 in the series.

NFL Football Betting Tips Week 2 of 2013

Here is the initial look at the sports betting eBook sharp players clipboard for NFL preseason football week 2 of 2013.

Thursday, August 15, 2013

Lions-Browns

Cleveland’s second-year star running back Trent Richardson, slowed by injuries so far as a pro, was thrilled to find out he’ll play in Thursday night’s preseason game against the Detroit Lions.

Source: Associated Press default

First year head coach Rob Chudzinski says Cleveland Browns have an honest-to-goodness quarterback competition between Brandon Weeden and Jason Campbell. Weeden has taken every first-team rep in training camp, leaving Campbell to work exclusively with the second team. Weeden was excellent in the Browns’ preseason opener (10-of-13 passing for 112 yards and one TD), and figures to start again Thursday against the Detroit Lions.

Source: ESPN

Sports betting champ says According to Detroit RB Reggie Bush, the offense is beginning to hit its stride. Bush and the starters on offense only played for the first two drives. He expects a little more work in Cleveland after getting his feet wet at home last week.

Falcons-Ravens

Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta is out. He has 61 catches last year.

Source: ESPN

San Diego-Bears

San Diego Chargers wide receiver Malcom Floyd is out after suffering a knee sprain during Monday’s practice. Floyd led the Chargers with a career-best 56 receptions for 814 yards and five touchdowns last season. Over his eight-year career, all with the Chargers, Floyd has 233 catches for 3,984 yards and 25 TDs. Danario Alexander, San Diego’s other starting receiver, was lost for the year after tearing his ACL last Tuesday.

The Chicago Bears signed running back Curtis Brinkley to a one-year contract on Monday in an attempt to bolster some depth to a position currently dealing with injuries. The move comes three days after Armando Allen, projected to be the team’s No. 3 running back behind Matt Forte and Michael Bush, hurt his right hamstring in Friday’s preseason opener at Carolina.

Panthers-Eagles

The Eagles have had starter Jeremy Maclin and possible backup Arrelious Benn both go down with season-ending ACL injuries during training camp.

Friday, August 16, 2013

Vikings-Bills

Possible No. 1 QB Kevin Kolb came out scrambling and firing one completion after another Tuesday. It was an impressive enough outing for coach Doug Marrone to suggest the seventh-year quarterback is on track to play in Buffalo’s preseason game against Minnesota on Friday.  Kolb had missed eight days of training camp and the Bills’ preseason-opening 44-20 win at Indianapolis on Sunday after slipping on a wet rubber mat in practice Aug. 3. The update wasn’t as positive for receiver T.J. Graham, who was held out of practice a day after straining his groin. Marrone doesn’t expect Graham to return until after the game Friday.

Cowboys-Cardinals

The “Honey Badger” is about to get his first NFL start.Arizona coach Bruce Arians said Tuesday that rookie Tyrann Mathieu will start at free safety in place of injured Rashad Johnson. Mathieu has been a sensation in training camp as he looks to make a comeback after being booted from the LSU team for marijuana use and frequenting many a CBD Oil in the region.

49ers-Chiefs

Pro Bowl running back Jamaal Charles had his ailing right foot examined by two orthopedic surgeons and they confirmed the Kansas City Chiefs’ diagnosis of a mild strain. It appears unlikely that he will play in Friday night’s preseason game against San Francisco at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs leaned heavily on Charles in their preseason opener last week. He touched the ball on eight of the 14 plays that the No. 1 offense ran on its opening touchdown drive.

Dolphins-Texans

Houston Texans guard Wade Smith is out. Smith has started all 48 games over the past three seasons with the Texans and was a Pro Bowl selection for the first time last year.

Source: Associated Press

It’s early, but the Dolphins might not get the impact they hoped for from their rookie class.

Source: ESPN

Jaguars-Jets

Jets coach Rex Ryan declined Tuesday to name his starter for Saturday night against the Jacksonville Jaguars, leaving open the possibility he may let the Mark Sanchez-Geno Smith battle continue for a week longer than many expected. Smith was limited to only 14 snaps against the Detroit Lions, completing six of seven passes for 47 yards.

Source: ESPN

Jag’s Blaine Gabbert’s inability to clear 2 yards per attempt in the Jacksonville Jaguars’ 27-3 preseason loss to the Miami Dolphins last week. Take Monday’s practice report from the Jaguars’ official website for example: “The offense struggled at times in practice, with Gabbert completing about half his passes in 11-on-11 drills and (Chad) Henne completing a little more than half while fumbling twice.” After reading these skipping-record reports for nearly three weeks, the one above can be copied and pasted as a recap of the offense’s performance for the entire training camp.

Sunday, August 18, 2013

Colts-Giants

New York Giants safety Antrel Rolle is out, likely for the preseason. A nine-year veteran Rolle is the leader of the secondary. He had a career-high 108 tackles last season and was a constant voice trying to make sure his teammates were on the same page.

Source: Associated Press

Colts played poorly in their 44-20 preseason loss to Buffalo. Coach Chuck Pagano said the starters will play more and they will play better as a team against the New York Giants on Sunday.

Ravens-Buccaneers

Baltimore Ravens tight end Ed Dickson will be out for approximately two weeks due to a slight hamstring tear. Dickson, who suffered the injury during Sunday’s practice, is the team’s No. 1 tight end after Dennis Pitta was lost for the season with a hip injury sustained during training camp. The 25-year-old Dickson caught 21 passes for 225 yards for Baltimore a year ago.

Bengals-Falcons

Wide receiver A.J. Green will not make the trip for the Cincinnati Bengals’ preseason opener in Atlanta. He caught 97 passes last year with 11 TDs.

Friday, August 9

Cardinals-Packers

The Green Bay Packers may be forced to shuffle their renovated offensive line after starting left tackle Bryan Bulaga reportedly suffered a season-ending knee injury.

Source: Associated Press

Green Bay added depth at RB. Enter second-round draft pick Eddie Lacy of Alabama and fourth-round pick Johnathan Franklin of UCLA. They have shared reps with two returners from last season, Alex Green and James Starks. Two of their top three cornerbacks (Tramon Williams and Casey Hayward) remain sidelined.

The Arizona Cardinals again were without their top two running backs as training camp resumed Monday following a day off for all the players.Rashard Mendenhall missed his third straight practice with patella tendinitis and Ryan Williams remained sidelined with a sore knee. Three other starters – guard Daryn Colledge (nerve irritation), inside linebacker Karlos Dansby (hamstring) and nose tackle Dan Williams (sprained ankle, knee) also missed another practice.  Those who sat out Monday’s practice could miss Friday’s opener as well.

“A bunch of those guys will be iffy for the ball game but they are getting better,” Arians said. “We’ll err on the side of caution.”

Asked how much the starters would play against the Packers, Arians said, “We’re shooting for 15 plays.” “We’ll see how it goes, how far one side of the ball or the other gets stuck going into the second quarter,” he said. “We’ll just see how it plays out, how we’re playing. There are so many young guys that need to be evaluated.”

Chiefs-Saints

Starter Marques Colston has yet to practice this camp. Joe Morgan, who appeared to have the lead for the No. 3 receiver spot, went down with an unspecified injury in a scrimmage Saturday.

Sunday, August 11

Bills-Colts

The Indianapolis Colts are in the midst of a retooling project on the defensive side of the football. Thanks to a flurry of offseason free-agent signings, as well as one or two additions through the draft, the Colts could have at least six new starters when the regular season opens.

Source: Sports Xchange

WR Darius Hayward-Bay is out for Colts. He had 41 receptions for 606 yards.

Source: Rotoworld

Buccaneers-Jets

The competition between the two for the starting quarterback job remains tight, and coach Rex Ryan is not sure who will start the preseason opener at Detroit on Friday night. But Ryan added that both Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith will work with the first-team offense during the game.

Here is the intel you get every day:

DALLAS +2.5 Miami

If this line goes to 3.5, I will upgrade to a Wise Guy. The oddsmakers knew Dallas would likely play Tony Romo and the starters minimally anyway, so the sharp money on Miami was withknowledge that they may be able to sneak in a solid middle.

Dallas has a large contingent of young players and rookies battling for playing time. So they will have some players with a regular season intensity. Having proven veterans play a couple series in the Hall-of-Game game is something I would fade, not bet on.

Miami has looked sloppy so far, no surprise with key players being offseason additions. Today is not the day they need to prove anything and they know it. We will ride the hungry young Pokes and fade the false line move.

Wise Guy…

PROVIDENCE -8.5 Robert Morris

Bobby Mo will be fat and happy off the least impressive “upset” in sports history. They won at home against a completely disinterested Kentucky squad. Though the Big East is not exactly having a banner season, the Friars picked up 18 wins against a tough schedule. There is no reason for this to be a consolation game for them, but it is a letdown for Morris. Our power ratings have Providence 10 points better, but add to that Morris has the false sense of security after beating Kentucky, a win that made their season, the chalk covers.

WESTERN MICHIGAN +6 Wyoming

CBI Game of the Year

Since losing star Luke Martinez, Wyoming has been one of the great fades in the nation. They are 3-12 the last 15 and incredibly two of the covers have been by one point each, yet four of the failures have been by at least 17. Again, that is to the number, not just SU.

Now, Leonard Washington’s back is in the same place it’s been for well over a month. He tweaked it last game and may be out tonight.

Since the injuries hit Washington, Wyoming is 2-6. While the Cowboys escaped Lehigh thanks to Nathan Sobey’s buzzer-beater, having Washington could be paramount against Western Michigan.

The Broncos’ top two players, junior Shayne Whittington and freshman Darius Paul, are interior forces. The 6-foot-10 Whittington averages a team-leading 13.2 points per game and 8.8 rebounds per game, while the 6-foot-8 Paul—the Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year—averages 10.8 ppg and 5.8 rpg.

Even if Washington plays, his back will be greatly tested against that huge frontline. WMU wins outright.

Fact it, if Wyoming has not had the injuries and suspension, they may be in the Big Dance. So much has been taken out of the team. Look for their season to end tonight.

Major…

BYU -7.5 Mercer

Mercer is in the heart of SEC country. Beating Tennessee was huge, but they will not be able to match the intensity this time. Mercer will travel 1629 miles to Provo and that will take a lot out of them. Three times they traveled that far. They won once on a neutral court, but failed to cover against a bad Wake Forest team. The two times they played road games at that distance, they were blown out by 18 and 20 points.

A potent BYU offense is powered by the inside-outside combination of sophomore guard Tyler Haws and senior forward Brandon Davies. Haws paces the squad at 21.4 points per game, while Davies averages 17.8 points per outing. Joining them with a double-figure scoring average is Matt Carlino, who contributes 11 points a game.

Richmond-Wright State UNDER 128

Our power line has just 119 points projected. While the minor tournaments do often have higher scoring games, this is a huge discrepancy with a low total.

Wise Guy…

OREGON +3.5 St. Louis

Oregon has a lot shorter travel. Saint Louis will travel 1712 miles to San Jose, compared to 468 for the underdogs. The Ducks are much better with Dominic Artis in the line-up. They were 1-7 without him. Though one can argue they underacheived with him, they have turned it around and covered three straight now that he is fully integrated into line-up.

Major…

MICHIGAN STATE -5.5 Memphis

It is almost a home game for the Spartans. Michigan St will travel 64 miles to Auburn Hills. Memphis is coming 636. MSU is 11-2 SU all-time at The Palace of Auburn Hills. Under Tom Izzo, MSU is 11-1 SU at The Palace, including 3-0 in the NCAA Tournament.

Under Tom Izzo, the Spartans are a remarkable 17-3 in the second game of an NCAA Tournament weekend. All three losses have come to No. 1 seeds. Izzo, like Joe Duffy, wins a ton in March. Clearly he uses the short preparation time as well as anyone.

In the last nine games for MSU, Adreian Paye is averaging 13.1 points and 9.4 rebounds, including grabbing 14 boards at Nebraska and a career-high 15 at Ohio State, while recording four double-doubles.

Michigan State presents a balanced scoring attack with all five Spartan starters averaging 9.3 points or better. Keith Appling, Branden Dawson, Gary Harris, Derrick Nix and Adreian Payne have each scored 20 points in at least one game this season. This is big especially when foes have such a short time to prepare.

LOUISVILLE -10.5 Colorado State

Louisville breezed two days ago and will be well rested against this CSU team that traveled 1114 miles to Lexington, compared to 72 for Louisville. With a few days off before their next game, the Cards can certainly be in statement mode. Yes, in our Wise guy winner, Colorado State won by 12 in their opening game, but certainly spent a ton more energy.

As of March 20, the Rams are the top-ranked team statistically in rebounding margin (+12.1) and also hold the 12th-best turnovers per game mark in the country (10.8). Seriously, do you think that holds against this mega-talented team?

CALIFORNIA +7.5 Syracuse

Nobody got more screwed than Syracuse. The much higher seeded team is basically playing a road game 2416 across the country, to a team that traveled a mere 42. Cal is not short on talent. Pac -12 Player of the Year and Naismith Award candidate Allen Crabbe leads the California offense. He is averaging 18.7 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. Junior Justin Cobbs was voted to the All-Pac-12 Second Team. He leads the team with 154 assists to along with 15.4 points per game. David Krash is the Golden Bears’ leading rebounder (7.0 rpg.) and shot blocker (1.7 bpg.).

Cal has been playing up or down to the competition, winning outright their last three as underdogs, but losing their last two SU when favorites.

Butler-Marquette OVER 125

Our math total on the game is 132.5. We also have the total projected at 130. Both are significant and point towards an over.
