NBA

Here are news and notes from Godspicks.com private
clipboard.  They are compiled from
hometown newspapers and the team’s own press releases.

Cavaliers-Pistons

Canton Repository

The 3-point onslaught by Detroit
in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals was a team effort and more than
enough to bury the Cavs. The Pistons hit a franchise playoff record 15 threes
in their convincing 113-86 victory.

Mavericks-Spurs

Fort Worth Star-Telegram

Spurs point guard Tony Parker is listed as questionable
for Game 2 of the best-of-seven playoff series against the Mavericks.Parker
did not practice Monday, but everyone believes he’ll start. NBA commissioner
David Stern acknowledged that it was a mistake to schedule the Spurs to open
the series with an early game Sunday. San Antonio
ended its first-round series in Sacramento
so late on Friday night that it was after midnight
in Texas. They didn’t arrive back
in San Antonio until 3 p.m. on Saturday. They tipped off at noon on Sunday because ABC wanted the
Cleveland-Detroit game in the more attractive later slot.

MLB

Mets-Phillies

PhillyBurbs

The Phils are looking to extend
their eight-game winning streak, the franchise’s longest since a 13-gamer in
1991. Myers pitched fairly well in a no decision against Atlanta
on Wednesday night, allowing two earned runs in seven innings.  Martinez
has allowed two or fewer runs in four of his last five starts. He has struck
out 25 while only walking four in the past 20 innings.

Astros-Dodgers

Scorephone.com

After a five-game losing streak, the Dodgers put together
a sweep of Milwaukee and notched a
10-2 triumph in the series finale on Sunday. Houston,
which is two games behind Cincinnati
for the lead in the NL Central Division, is 0-4 on a seven-game road trip. It
will go with veteran lefty Andy Pettitte for Tuesday’s series opener. Pettitte
is 1-3 over his last five starts, but ended a four-start winless streak in his
last trip to the hill on May 4 against St. Louis.
The southpaw gave up three runs and seven hits through 6 2/3 innings of a 4-3
victory. In three career starts against the Dodgers, Pettitte totes a 2-0
record with a 1.64 earned run average. Houston
leads the 2006 series with LA by a 2-1 margin. The Astros went 4-2 in the 2005
season series before the Dodgers took the ‘04 series 4-1.
