NFL Week 8 Injuries For Week 9 Fantasy Football and Betting

A few more big names went down in Week 8 and damaged some teams’ NFL betting hopes in the process – possibly irreparably. Here’s the latest injury lowdown, excluding Monday-night casualties Andre Johnson, Mike Hart and Donald Brown since their statuses are still very foggy. Also, Beanie Wells, Ryan Mathews and Felix Jones all suffered minor injuries that don’t look they’ll cause any problems this week. The Week 9 NFL podcast is up.

Brett Favre, Vikings: JAW

Brett Favre took a huge hit to the jaw that busted him open versus the Patriots. His chin laceration required 10 stitches to close. Though Favre may have to take a concussion test (he couldn’t finish the game), it looks like he’ll play next week. It sure feels like No. 4’s career is going out with a whimper.

Vince Young, Titans: ANKLE

Young may have suffered a high-ankle sprain in Sunday’s lost to San Diego; he left the stadium in a walking boot. However, he has a bye week to heal so it’s possible that he won’t miss any time. Too early to tell.

Matt Hasselbeck, Seahawks: CONCUSSION

And Hasselbeck wins the sports betting blog Concussion of the Week award. Reportedly, it’s a “slight” one, so he may not give way to Charlie Whitehurst just yet.

Ryan Torain, Redskins: HAMSTRING

Washington’s bruising runner yanked his hamstring Sunday and a subsequent MRI revealed no structural damage. He still has a pretty good chance to play following Washington’s Week-9 bye.

Kenny Britt, Titans: HAMSTRING

Unfortunately for the Titans and fantasy football owners, Britt’s hamstring injury looks serious. It may not cost him the season but he’s expected to miss “an extended period of time.”

Percy Harvin, Vikings: ANKLE

This was a weird one. Harvin was helped off the field with an ankle injury but returned to finish the game against New England. Later, he was reportedly limping badly after the game. So is he hurt or not? He’ll be re-evaluated. The Vikings’ ship continues to sink. Avoid them like the plague at your sportsbook.

Vernon Davis, 49ers: ANKLE

Here’s another injured guy who benefits from a bye week. Vernon Davis may have aggravated an ankle injury on Sunday in London but may heal sufficiently that he’ll be ready following the bye.

Nnamdi Asomugha, Raiders: ANKLE

Betting sharps could argue that this was Sunday’s most significant injury. Asomugha is one of the league’s top shutdown corners and appeared to suffer a serious ankle injury. Then again, some reports out of Oakland say he’ll suit up for Week 9. If it’s a high ankle sprain, however, I wouldn’t count Asomugha playing for at least a game.
