Wednesday’s lone college football game between middling Sun Belt conference teams actually has some meaning – the winner becomes bowl eligible. Both Middle Tennessee and Louisiana Lafayette are 5-6 straight-up on the season, and will be gunning to get to the .500 mark with a win in this game Wednesday.

The Blue Raiders have won three games in a row over Louisiana-Monroe, Western Kentucky, and North Texas, trouncing the Mean Green 52-13 in their last outing on November 22. The Ragin‘ Cajuns are going in the other direction right now, with three consecutive losses versus UTEP, Florida Atlantic, and Troy.

Still, the oddsmakers opened Louisiana-Lafayette as a 4.5-point home favorite in this contest, with the total sitting at 57.5 points. The Ragin‘ Cajuns are 7-4 against-the-spread this season and 7-4 on the OVER/UNDER. The Blue Raiders have been less lucrative at 5-6 ATS, and they’re at 4-7 versus the totals this year.

Other Notable Events

LeBron James and his Cleveland Cavaliers will be looking for their sixth straight win on Wednesday night when they play host to the New York Knicks. The Cavs (14-3 SU, 13-4 ATS) got past the Bucks 97-85 on the road in their last outing, with James scoring 32 points in the win. Zydrunas Ilgauskas picked up 23 points.

The Bucks return to action on Wednesday as well, as they get a visit from the Bulls. There are nine other games on the NBA schedule, including Memphis at Atlanta, Portland at Washington, the Lakers at Philadelphia, Minnesota at Orlando, Indiana at Boston, Phoenix at New Orleans, the Clippers at Houston, and Miami at Utah. The Rest of the Schedule

The NHL offers up five games on Wednesday night, including an Atlantic Division clash between the Penguins and the Rangers in New York. The Rangers were blanked 4-0 by the Panthers in their last outing, while the Pens are coming off a 4-1 divisional win over the Devils. Rounding out the night‘s schedule: Atlanta at Ottawa, St. Louis at Minnesota, Anaheim at Chicago, and Dallas at Edmonton.

Finally, in college basketball action top-ranked North Carolina will put their unbeaten record on the line when they take on No. 13 Michigan State in the ACC/Big 10 Challenge. The Tar Heels pounded N.C. Asheville 116-48 last time out to improve to 7-0. Those overmatched Bulldogs will take on No. 10 Tennessee on Wednesday, while No. 3 Pittsburgh has a date with Duquesne. Other notable games on tap: Auburn vs. No. 14 Xavier, Indiana vs. No. 15 Wake Forest, and Cornell vs. No. 16 Syracuse.
