PGA Betting – Canadian Open Odds and Pick

Before the UFC 101 odds attract the high-adrenaline bettors in the coming weeks, let’s enjoy the mellow summer with what should be a mellow tournament with a mellow field in mellow Ontario, Canada. The Canadian Open will fly under the radar, but it does feature a course designed by Jack Nicklaus and a handful of solid names. Let’s explore a few high-traction sportsbook picks.

Retief Goosen
Golf odds: +1600

He’s the ultimate safe bettor’s play, as the icy-calm Goosen has one missed cut all season. He scores low, which is important at the relatively short Glen Abbey Golf Club, and he tied for fifth at last week’s British Open, so he should be at the top of his game this week..

Mike Weir
Golf odds: +1600

The odds makers must be sentimental, because they’re crazy to give Mike Weir the same odds to win as the favorite Goosen. Some bettors think he’ll win because he’s Canadian and wants this tourney more than anyone else, and they’re half right. Weir wants it bad, but that seems to hurt him instead of help him. He choked horribly when he had the 2004 Canadian Open sewn up. He’s been very inconsistent this season too, so he’s not a great sports pick.

Anthony Kim
Golf odds: +1800

Whatever Kim does, he’ll make the event worth the price per head this week. He’s second on Tour in birdies and has the ability to go really low when his ball striking is on. In a somewhat forgotten tournament like this one, he shouldn’t feel too much pressure. He’ll contend all week.

Luke Donald
Golf odds: +2000

Arguably, Donald’s a safer play than Weir or Kim, which is great news for bettors since Donald offers more value. He leads the Tour in putting and has five top-10s in just 14 starts this season. He’s playing well right now and also has the accurate, precise ball striking needed to go low at the Abbey. He’s an excellent play this week.

Pick: Luke Donald +2000

Adam LaRoche a Red Sox; MLB Betting Picks For Tonight

The rich got richer as the Boston Red Sox acquired first basebamen Adam LaRoche from the Pittsburgh Pirates for two middling minor league suspects. In return the Bucs got Argenis Diaz and Hunter Strickland. MLB betting guru Stevie Vincent said that either will “be lucky to have a cup of coffee in the Major Leagues.”

Now to some baseball betting previews from Bodog.

The surging -133 favored Los Angeles Angels look to continue their season-long domination of the Kansas City Royals tonight when they try to complete a three-game road sweep.

Los Angeles improved to 5-0 against Kansas City this year after sweeping a doubleheader Tuesday. The Angels have also won 19 of their last 24 games at Kauffman Stadium, and 31 of 41 overall versus the Royals.

The Angels have won nine of their last 10 games. They lead second-place Texas by three games in the AL West.

The Royals tied a team record by using nine pitchers in the doubleheader, and have fallen a season-worst 19 games under .500 thanks to their second eight-game losing streak of 2009.

Angels starter Joe Saunders is 2-0 with a 0.56 ERA in two career starts versus Kansas City.

Royals starter Brian Bannister is 1-4 over his last six starts despite a 2.95 ERA.

Later today, the -150 favored Florida Marlins look to complete a three-game sweep of the lowly San Diego Padres at Petco Park.

Despite winning two in a row, Florida remains seven games behind the Phillies, winners of 10 straight.

While the Marlins are in position to record their fourth sweep of a road series this season, they are still struggling at the plate. Florida is batting .228 while scoring 11 runs over its last five contests.

Ricky Nolasco takes the ball for the Marlins after giving up four runs and seven hits in six innings of a 2-1, 12-inning loss to Philadelphia on Friday.

Nolasco is 1-2 with a 4.82 ERA versus San Diego as a starter.

The Padres counter with Josh Geer, who’s facing Florida for the first time and looking for his first win since May 23.

Miguel Montero will look to continue his stellar play in today’s finale of a three-game road set against the Colorado Rockies and lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to their fourth win in five series.

When Chris Snyder went on the disabled list June 23 with a lower back strain, Arizona was in the midst of losing 11 of 13, and Montero went 2 for 13 in the first four games in place of Snyder.

Since then, he’s had a hit in 15 of his last 17 contests, and batted .418 in that time.

While winning nine of 14, the Diamondbacks have hit .281 to boost their average from .242 to .248.

Jon Garland will look for rare run support while he tries to avoid tying for the NL lead in losses.

Looking for their 32nd win in 43 games, the -180 favored Rockies will also try to maintain their NL wild-card lead behind righthander Ubaldo Jimenez.

The Lynx fell 72-69 to Seattle last time out to sit at 9-7 both SU and ATS this season. Minnesota is also at 5-2 ATS on the road.
