Adam LaRoche a Red Sox; MLB Betting Picks For Tonight

The rich got richer as the Boston Red Sox acquired first basebamen Adam LaRoche from the Pittsburgh Pirates for two middling minor league suspects. In return the Bucs got Argenis Diaz and Hunter Strickland. MLB betting guru Stevie Vincent said that either will “be lucky to have a cup of coffee in the Major Leagues.”

The surging -133 favored Los Angeles Angels look to continue their season-long domination of the Kansas City Royals tonight when they try to complete a three-game road sweep.

Los Angeles improved to 5-0 against Kansas City this year after sweeping a doubleheader Tuesday. The Angels have also won 19 of their last 24 games at Kauffman Stadium, and 31 of 41 overall versus the Royals.

The Angels have won nine of their last 10 games. They lead second-place Texas by three games in the AL West.

The Royals tied a team record by using nine pitchers in the doubleheader, and have fallen a season-worst 19 games under .500 thanks to their second eight-game losing streak of 2009.

Angels starter Joe Saunders is 2-0 with a 0.56 ERA in two career starts versus Kansas City.

Royals starter Brian Bannister is 1-4 over his last six starts despite a 2.95 ERA.

Later today, the -150 favored Florida Marlins look to complete a three-game sweep of the lowly San Diego Padres at Petco Park.

Despite winning two in a row, Florida remains seven games behind the Phillies, winners of 10 straight.

While the Marlins are in position to record their fourth sweep of a road series this season, they are still struggling at the plate. Florida is batting .228 while scoring 11 runs over its last five contests.

Ricky Nolasco takes the ball for the Marlins after giving up four runs and seven hits in six innings of a 2-1, 12-inning loss to Philadelphia on Friday.

Nolasco is 1-2 with a 4.82 ERA versus San Diego as a starter.

The Padres counter with Josh Geer, who’s facing Florida for the first time and looking for his first win since May 23.

Miguel Montero will look to continue his stellar play in today’s finale of a three-game road set against the Colorado Rockies and lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to their fourth win in five series.

When Chris Snyder went on the disabled list June 23 with a lower back strain, Arizona was in the midst of losing 11 of 13, and Montero went 2 for 13 in the first four games in place of Snyder.

Since then, he’s had a hit in 15 of his last 17 contests, and batted .418 in that time.

While winning nine of 14, the Diamondbacks have hit .281 to boost their average from .242 to .248.

Jon Garland will look for rare run support while he tries to avoid tying for the NL lead in losses.

Looking for their 32nd win in 43 games, the -180 favored Rockies will also try to maintain their NL wild-card lead behind righthander Ubaldo Jimenez.

James Shields (6-6, 3.75 ERA) will try to pitch the Rays to a win on Wednesday night when they continue their series in Chicago against the White Sox. Righthander Shields was blasted by the Royals last time out, surrendering seven earned runs on 11 hits over 5 1-3 innings of work; Shields’ last win came on June 20. The White Sox originally had John Danks slated to pitch on Wednesday, but he was scratched with a finger injury. Call-up Carlos Torres will start in his place.

Elsewhere around the American League on Wednesday: Baltimore at the Yankees, Minnesota at Oakland, Seattle at Detroit, Cleveland at Toronto, the Angels at Kansas City, and Boston at Texas. The Red Sox will go with Tim Wakefield (11-3, 4.31 ERA) in their series finale; the knuckleballer has picked up a victory in seven of his last 10 trips to the mound. Vicente Padilla (7-5, 4.67 ERA), who lost to the Twins in his last outing, will take to the hill for the Rangers.

Righthander Oswalt shut down the Dodgers last time out, holding them to one earned run on four hits in a complete-game victory. Righthander Carpenter was dominant last time out as well, blanking the Diamondbacks on seven hits over eight innings while fanning seven.

Also on the NL slate for Wednesday: Milwaukee at Pittsburgh, Arizona at Colorado, Florida at San Diego, the Mets at Washington, the Cubs at Philadelphia, Cincinnati at the Dodgers, and San Francisco at Atlanta. Tim Lincecum (10-2, 2.27 ERA) goes for the Giants in that matchup; the righthander has given up three or fewer earned runs in each of his last 11 outings. Jair Jurrjens (8-7, 2.77 ERA) will be gunning for his third straight win for the Braves.

Finally, the WNBA offers up five games on Wednesday, with Atlanta at Detroit, New York at Chicago, Sacramento at Connecticut, Los Angeles at Seattle, and Minnesota at Phoenix. The Mercury head into Wednesday’s matchup with a West-best 12-4 straight-up (and 12-4 against-the-spread) record, and they beat Detroit 97-90 in their last contest.
