Boxing Odds – Pac-Man Massive Favorite In Cotto Clash

Like New York‘s World Series odds, Manny Pacquiao is an overwhelming favorite in his November 14th fight with Miguel Cotto, slated to take place in Las Vegas at a 145-pound catchweight, but for Cotto’s WBO welterweight crown. Can “Pac-Man” become the first man to hold title in an amazing SEVEN different weight classes?

Manny Pacquiao (49-3-2, 37 KOs)

“Pac-Man” is the world’s No.1 pound-for-pound boxer, and he’s looking to join Thomas Hearns, “Sugar” Ray Leonard, Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather as the only boxers to hold belts in five different weight classes. He’d also like to join De La Hoya, who is the only man to hold six different titles, and he dropped his idol in the eighth round of their 2008 fight. Pacquiao’s last fight didn’t even go that long as he knocked out Ricky Hatton in the second round of their fight back in May. Pacquiao may have the quickest hands of anyone in boxing, and he’s surprisingly strong for such a small man.

Miguel Cotto (34-1, 27 KOs)

Cotto knows he’s a huge online betting underdog, but that probably won’t make him change his style. Cotto will stand in there and slug it out with anyone, which usually makes it interesting for the fans and PPV customers. Cotto is coming off an entertaining split-decision win over Josh Clottey back in June to retain the WBO welterweight title that he won over Michael Jennings in February.

Sportsbook odds have Pacquiao as a -270 favorite in this contest, and this is his third straight fight at the MGM Grand. Cotto would like some redemption as the MGM Grand is the site of his lone loss, a controversial 11th-round knockout at the hands of Antonio Margarito, who is suspected to have put plaster on his hands for more power back in July 2008. This should be the Fight of the Year as neither fighter will back down from a toe-to-toe brawl, but they’re going to have to show some technique at some point, and Pacquiao has the edge in that, as well as elusiveness. In a fight that should go the distance, take the favored Manny Pacquiao in your sports picks.

World Series Game 5 Free Pick

The World Series Game 5 odds have Philadelphia and Cliff Lee at -155 to the Yankees at AJ Burnett. Champion sports handicapper Matt Rivers has a free play on the Yankees plus 140 at BetUs Sportsbook

Here is why:

Cliff Lee has certainly been masterful in the postseason and has the ability to repeat that feat but with the way the New Yorkers are rolling right now to get some coin back with them is well worth the risk.

I am not the biggest AJ Burnett believer on the planet but the righthander was money in that last start, has always had great stuff and should be alright today. The closeout game is never easy in any sport but with Arod, Teixeira, Jeter, Damon, Posada and the rest of Joe Girardi’s club you are getting guys that have been there and done that and truly do not look as if they are about to let up on the pedal.

It will be a great challenge to get to Lee but everything is coming up roses for the Yankees of late and one has to believe that Lee will come back down to Earth. After all the Yankees are as professional of a hitting organization as there is out there and after watching film they will make adjustments against the former Indians Cy Young award winner. Shutting down any team twice in one week is almost impossible whewn facing Big Leaguers and doing so against the Bronx Bombers is just not going to happen.

Win or lose here plus some money with this Yankee team right now against anybody and anywhere is a total no-brainer, period.

World Series, Monday Night Football

Today in the Daily Sports Roundup: The unbeaten Saints meet the Falcons, the winless Nets take on the Bobcats, and the World Series stages Game 5 in Philly. Footage of Brandon Spikes eye gouging has emerged—the dirty Florida Gator performed the cheap shot against Georgia. Phillies fans still are bemoaning how the Johnny Damon double steal happened.

Colliding on the gridiron . . .

The Saints will host the Falcons for Monday Night Football this week, with New Orleans looking to keep its perfect record intact. The Saints (6-0 SU, 6-0 ATS) thumped the Dolphins 46-34 in Miami last time out,  despite Drew Brees throwing for only 298 yards and one touchdown and getting picked off three times. Brees also ran for a pair of scores in that victory, while Reggie Bush rushed for a touchdown as well. Marques Colston had five catches for 72 yards and a score.

The Falcons (4-2 SU, 4-2 ATS) fell 37-21 to the Cowboys in Dallas in their last game, as Matt Ryan went 19-of-35 for 198 yards passing with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Michael Turner was held to 50 yards on the ground but scored one TD, while Roddy White and Eric Weems had touchdown catches. The oddsmakers like the Saints to roll over their division rival at home on Monday, as they’re 11-point favorites. The total for the matchup sits at 55 points.

Meeting up on the diamond . . .

The World Series remains in Philadelphia on Monday for Game 5 of the set, with the Phillies turning to ace Cliff Lee to get them a victory. Lefthander Lee dazzled the Yankees in the series opener, holding them to one unearned run on six hits over nine innings while fanning 10 batters. Lee is now 3-0 with a no-decision in four playoff starts, with an ERA of 0.54. The Yankees will send A.J. Burnett to the mound; righthander Burnett won Game 2, allowing one run in his seven innings.

Tipping off on the hardwood . . .

The NBA offers up five games on Monday night, with New Orleans at New York, Houston at Utah, Memphis at Sacramento, Minnesota at the Clippers, and New Jersey at Charlotte. The Nets (0-3 SU, 0-2-1 ATS) were beaten 123-104 by the Wizards in Washington last time out, with Chris Douglas-Roberts tossing in a team-high 25 points in that defeat. The Bobcats (1-2 SU, 2-1 ATS) fell 90-79 on the road to the Cavs in their last game, with Gerald Wallace picking up 11 points.

Taking a trip around the rink . . .

Finally, there are three games on tap in the National Hockey League on Monday, with Tampa Bay at Philadelphia, Edmonton at the Islanders, and Los Angeles at Phoenix. The Kings (8-4-2) were beaten 2-1 in a shootout by the Canucks in their last game on Thursday night, with Scott Parse scoring in regulation and Jon Quick making 14 saves. The Coyotes (9-4-0) beat the Ducks 3-2 at home on Saturday in a shootout, with Robert Lang and Vernon Fiddler providing markers.
