Meeting up on the diamond . . .

The NLCS between the Giants and Phillies gets underway in Philadelphia on Saturday night, with Tim Lincecum (1-0, 0.00 ERA) taking on Roy Halladay (1-0, 0.00 ERA). Righthander Lincecum dazzled the Braves in his only NLDS outing, holding them scoreless on two hits over his nine innings of work, while fanning 14 batters. Righthander Halladay, though, was even more dominant in his NLDS outing last round, no-hitting the Reds while fanning eight batters. Halladay lost to the Giants in San Francisco back on April 26 (five runs in seven innings), and Lincecum took a no-decision in that series (two runs in 8 1-3 innings). The Phillies are -168 home favorites.

Meanwhile, the ALCS between the Yankees and Rangers continues in Texas on Saturday afternoon, with Phil Hughes (1-0, 0.00 ERA) countering Colby Lewis (0-0, 0.00 ERA). Righthander Hughes picked up a win over the Twins in the ALDS, blanking them on four hits over his seven innings of work. Righthander Lewis had to settle for a no-decision against the Rays in the ALDS despite giving up just two hits (and walking five) over five shutout innings. Hughes pitched a scoreless inning of relief against the Rangers on September 10. Lewis didn’t pitch against New York in the regular season.

The 3-1-0 Capitals are coming off a 2-1 home win over the Islanders on Wednesday, with Nicklas Backstrom scoring the game-winning goal in the third period. The 3-0-0 Predators slipped past the Blues 4-3 at home on Thursday night, with Anders Lindback making 32 stops between the pipes. Preds starting goalie Pekka Rinne (lower body) is day-to-day.

Tony Stewart visited victory lane at Charlotte back in the 2003 season, and he’s coming off a win last weekend in the Pepsi Max 400.

Pro Bettor’s Picks: Wisconsin vs. Ohio State

It’s the chic upset pick, Wisconsin beating Ohio State, but is it the accurate one for professional gambler picks? The great ScoresOddsPicks says, not so fast.

No. 1 Ohio State (-4) at No. 18 Wisconsin – Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET

Wisconsin (5-1, 0-5 ATS) can flip the balance of power in the Big Ten with a win, but the Badgers just haven’t played up to expectations this year, as their 0-5 record against the spread indicates. The offense came back to life in last week’s win over Minnesota, but it’s not like the Golden Gophers are defensive masterminds. At least the ground attack did what it was supposed to, racking up 250 yards.

The Buckeyes (6-0, 5-1 ATS) haven’t been challenged since an early September win over Miami. Last week, they topped Indiana 38-10. The most exciting news is the evolution of Terrelle Pryor, who didn’t have a single carry against the Hoosiers; instead, he shifted to pocket passer mode, going 24-30 for 334 yards and three touchdowns.

Ohio State has a whole bunch of ways to hurt you; Wisconsin doesn’t have the same luxury. If the Badgers are forced to lean on quarterback Scott Tolzien, as was the case in a loss to Michigan State a few weeks ago, they’re in trouble. Take the Buckeyes to win by a touchdown or so.

ScoresOddsPicks.com pick: Ohio State

Football Pick of the Week and Free Sports Bet on Kentucky vs. South Carolina

This week’s college football pick of the week is up.

But first it’s our comp winner from Matt Rivers for Saturday is on Kentucky.

I played Kentucky last week to the max with that 500,000* and it won as the Wildcats lost by only three in the cover at home against Auburn. I really do like them today once again as KU is my second favorite play on the board and at home I will gladly roll with them in this once again home dog spot.

Not having Derrick Locke isn’t great as the guy is a total stud but Randall Cobb and Mike Hartline still lead a potent and dangerous offense for us and if this game, after beating Alabama, doesn’t wreak letdown for Steve Spurrier’s Gamecocks than I don’t know what does.

South Carolina is definitely the better defensive team and overall stouter group on the field today but this is the perfect spot for them to not come all guns a blazing. They just upset top ranked Alabama at home and cannot keep up the insane intensity here on the road in Lexington, no how no way. You see this situation arise a lot in college sports, not only football, where team A has a phenomenal win and looks to be on the right track and ready to explode in a positive way. Then they leave home and lay the stinkiest of eggs against an inferior opponent. It happens in football, it happens in basketball, it happens in baseball it happens all over the college ranks in almost all sports with these 18, 19, 20 and 21 year olds.

I like the talent on Spurrier’s team but let’s face it Stephen Garcia has had a very up and down career and I can see the down rear its ugly head today. The kid had the game of his life last week in leading the ‘Cocks to the surprise victory but Garcia is going to be very susceptible to a poor effort today and a potential outright loss. The one motto that I go by regularly in life is how history repeats itself and that would fit brilliantly here in this spot for Garcia and his team as a whole as teams that have great wins like South Carolina just did generally fall flat in that next game suffering a tremendous letdown and get smacked around a bit. Kentucky has enough offensive firepower to play that underdog role to perfection today.

All in all I do believe that SC is the best they’ve been with Spurrier at the helm. Marcus Lattimore is a really good running back and Alshon Jeffrey is no joke himself. But these kids are still kids and the spot is ripe for the Kentucky picking. Look for the Wildcats to make plays and very possibly steal the outright shaking up the SEC once again.

The pick: Kentucky +5 against South Carolina
