Free Pick Baseball Betting

Soon baseball betting will be the big player and town. While beating the NBA odds continues to thrive, it’s now time for one of our popular sports betting free picks.

Tonight it comes from Grandmaster sports handicapper Joe Duffy and GodsTips on the Detroit Tigers-LA Anaheim Angels game. The game is now hovering around a pick at most sportsbooks and BetUs Sportsbook has the total at 8.5 over -125. Justin Verlander is on the hill for the Tigers, while the Halos counter with Joe Sanders.

The free is to go with the California, make that the Anaheim, no make that the Los Angeles Anaheim Angels.

The Anaheim Angels are 10-3 in the series to Detroit including 7-1 at home. The home team is 7-1 in the Angels last eight games.

Detroit’s Justin Verlander has been pure crap this year. His ERA is 7.87 with a 1.562 WHIP. That includes a 10.64 on the road with a 1.727 WHIP.

The Halos are 2-1 with Joe Saunders, whose ERA is 2.18 and who has a .919 WHIP. The Angels are 12-5 the last 17 in the series. Anaheim is 3-0 to Justin Verlander, who is -4.3 units on those three home starts. Conversely Joe Saunders has a team record of 3-1 to Detroit +2.4 units.

Personal record is a pitcher’s record in his decisions including relief appearances.  Team record is how the team did in his starts whether or not he was involved in the decision.

Going back to last year, the Tigers have lost 7-of-8 Verlander starts as an underdog. Anaheim is good at home to quality teams. Since last year they are 48-21 at home against teams with a winning record. They’ve also won 40-of-56 Joe Saunders starts.

Hockey Betting – Wednesday NHL Playoff Picks

As hockey betting rages on, the hate in each series is on the rise and many of the matchups are becoming more like boxing odds battles than hockey games. There’s no point paying attention to poor Montreal‘s plight, so let’s explore some other NHL odds for tonight.

Capitals vs Rangers odds: Game 4 tonight, 7:00 p.m. ET at Madison Square Garden
NHL lines: Capitals -150, Rangers +130

What a difference a game can make in online betting. Whether it was Ovechkin’s spying tactics or reduced pressure playing on the road, something clicked for the Capitals and they looked reborn in Game 3. Not only did the “big three” of Ovechkin/Backstrom/Semin combine for eight points, but the forwards backchecked as well as they have all season and rookie netminder Simeon Varlamov shone brightly. Naturally, the Rangers will always have the goaltending advantage with King Henrik Lundqvist in goal, but Washington only needs to be somewhat close in that department. Varlamov, who has experience in the World Junior Championship and Russian Super League hockey betting, has been cool as a cucumber, stopping 56 of 57 shots in two games since taking over the starting job. Given that he seems poised to keep the scores close, the Caps look like a great sportsbook pick to even up the series on Wednesday. Look for Ovechkin to notch his first goal of the series, too.

Online betting pick: Capitals -150

Blackhawks vs Flames odds: Game 4 tonight, 10:00 p.m. ET at Pengrowth Saddledome
NHL Lines: Blackhawks +135, Flames -155

For the first time all series, the Blackhawks looked off their game Monday night in their Game-3 loss to the Flames. While both teams combine skill and grit nicely, the Flames’ style seems to cater slightly more to the “grit” side, and they got under the young Hawks’ skin on Monday night. Playing at home in front of the Sea of Red again, the Flames likely won’t change their strategy in this NHL betting matchup .Bet on Calgary to bully Chicago again as the Flames even up what is rapidly becoming the most exciting series in the Stanley Cup odds so far this season.

Online betting pick: Flames

Free Baseball Picks

The silly season in baseball betting  isn’t quite over, as some good teams are still slumping and some bad teams are still winning. Online betting fans therefore have to tread carefully with MLB odds this month. Here’s some help for Tuesday night picks.

Twins vs Red Sox odds – Scott Baker (0-1, 13.50) vs Tim Wakefield (1-1, 3.00)
MLB lines : Twins +145, Red Sox -165

Some baseball betting players probably view this is a nice sportsbook upset opportunity, but this looks more like a matchup that would provide value if it took place a month from now. Currently, though, Scott Baker is still just one start removed from a DL stint. He was lit up by the sizzling Blue Jays last week, allowing four homers in four innings after giving up just 20 in 172.1 innings in 2009MLB betting. He hasn’t found his rhythm yet and it’s unlikely that he’ll magically find it after just one start.

Tim Wakefield is effective for the BoSox when his knuckler is dancing and it’s doing just that if last week is any indication. He took a no-hitter into the eighth inning against Oakland and went the distance in a 9-2 victory. He’s hot right now, and Baker’s not, so don’t get sucked in by Minnesota‘s value tonight.

Online betting pick: Red Sox -165

Padres vs Giants odds – Jake Peavy (2-1, 3.98) vs Matt Cain (1-0, 2.08)
MLB lines: Padres -124, Giants +104

Here’s a nice baseball betting treat early in the year: two young aces going head to head, though Cain probably hasn’t quite reached that status yet (it’s hard to do it with the NL’s worst run support every year). You have to like the Giants’ value at +104 here. Sure, it’s risky betting against Peavy , but any time a pitcher like Cain is an “underdog,” it’s tempting to go with him. Cain has been stellar against the Padres in his career, sporting a 2.92 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, .197 opponents average and 94 strikeouts in 95 innings. That’s not a small sample either—it’s over 15 starts. Peavy has been solid against the Giants in MLB betting (12-8, 3.24) over his career, but online betting fans should take Cain for a spin tonight.

Online betting pick: Giants +104

Tipping off on the hardwood  . . .

There are just two NBA playoff games on the schedule for Monday night, with Chicago at Boston and Dallas at San Antonio.  The latest Vegas NBA odds has Boston as an eight or 8.5 point favorite, while the Spurs are -6.5 across the board at press time.

The Bulls pulled off the overtime upset in the opening game of the first-round series on Saturday afternoon, getting 36 points from Derrick Rose in a 105-103 victory. Ben Gordon added 20 points for Chicago in that win, while Rajon Rondo scored 29 points for the Celtics.

The Spurs also lost their series opener at home on Saturday, falling 105-97 to the rival Mavericks. Josh Howard led the Dallas attack with 25 points in that contest, while Dirk Nowitzki tossed in 19 points, and Erick Dampier contributed 10 points and 11 rebounds. The O’s counter with lefthander Mark Hendrickson, who is 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA so far.

The only other American League contest on the slate for Monday sees the Yankees opening a home series against Oakland. Over in the National League on Monday it’ll be Atlanta at Washington, San Diego at Philadelphia, Florida at Pittsburgh, Cincinnati at Houston, and Colorado at Arizona. Taking a trip around the rink . . .

Three teams will be looking to take commanding series leads on Monday night when the NHL playoffs return to the ice. Leading things off is Washington at the Rangers, with New York coming off back-to-back upsets over Alexander Ovechkin and company. Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist made 35 saves on Saturday to give his team a 1-0 victory and a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

The Bruins and Blackhawks also won on Saturday to go up 2-0 in their playoff series. Boston thumped Montreal 5-1, with Marc Savard picking up two goals and two assists and Tim Thomas making 30 saves.
