Today in the Daily Sports Roundup: Kobe Bryant and LeBron James battle in Cleveland, and the National Football League caps its campaign at the Pro Bowl.

Tipping Off in the NBA

It’s Kobe vs. LeBron on Sunday afternoon (3:30pm ET tipoff) as the Lakers head to Cleveland to take on the Cavaliers. Bryant and James took turns blasting the Knicks at Madison Square Garden this past week, and they’ll each be looking to top their superstar rival on Sunday. The Lakers head into the contest at 40-9 straight-up and 25-23-1 against-the-spread, with the Cavs 39-9 SU and 32-16 ATS.

The biggest news in the NBA comes from Grandmaster sports handicapper Joe Duffy.

An excruciating overtime loss 4.5 point underdog Milwaukee loses by five in overtime. They settle for 8-4 go to 15-6 with Wise Guy plays.

As their sundry clients who go back with us decades know, we never force plays on marquee games just to make a sale. As well, Phoenix will travel to Detroit.

The March to Madness

The top college hoops matchup on Sunday is a 1:00pm ET battle between No. 12 Purdue and No. 23 Illinois. The Boilermakers are poised to drop in the rankings next week after they fell 80-72 in overtime to Ohio State last time out; they’ll need a win over Illinois to impress the voters. The Illini were also defeated in their last outing, as their offense sputtered in a 63-50 loss against Wisconsin.

There are three other ranked teams in action on Sunday, with No. 5 Louisville at St. John’s, No. 7 Wake Forest hosting Boston College, and No. 22 Washington hitting the road to meet Stanford; the Huskies fell to Cal 86-71 in their last game.

A Trip Around the Rink

There are just four NHL games on tap for Sunday, including the Red Wings on the road in Pittsburgh to take on the Penguins in a 12:30pm ET contest. Last year’s Stanley Cup finalists have already met once this season, a wild 7-6 Penguins overtime victory in November. Ruslan Fedotenko had the game-winner for Pittsburgh that night, as Detroit blew a 4-2 lead heading into the third period.

The Flyers will play their second game in two days on Sunday, as they’ll meet the Thrashers in Atlanta. Also, it’s Edmonton at Minnesota, and Nashville at Dallas.

Rounding Out the Slate

The annual NFC vs. AFC battle takes place on Sunday (4:30pm ET) as the National Football League closes the book on its Hawaii era for the Pro Bowl. Starting next year the league’s annual all-star event is slated to take place at the site of the Super Bowl the week before the big game. The NFC won the game at Aloha Stadium 42-30 last year, and they’re 2.5-point faves in Sunday’s matchup according to BetUs Sportsbook.

Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was named the MVP of last year’s Pro Bowl, and he’ll be back to try and defend that title this time around. The Cardinals’ Kurt Warner is the starting quarterback for the NFC, with Drew Brees and Eli Manning backing him up. Peyton Manning is slated to be behind center for the AFC to get things going, and Jay Cutler and Kerry Collins are the reserves.
