Today in the Daily Sports Roundup: Duke takes on Clemson in ACC action, Kobe Bryant and the Lakers arrive in Toronto, and the Flyers get a visit from the Bruins.

Tipping Off in the NBA

The Lakers will be without Andrew Bynum for the next two-to-three months with a knee injury, but that didn’t matter on Monday night when Kobe Bryant poured in 61 points in the team’s 126-117 road win over the Knicks. Los Angeles (38-9 SU, 24-23 ATS) will take on another Atlantic Division opponent on Wednesday night when they play in Toronto. The Raptors sit at 19-30 SU and 19-28-2 ATS so far.

There are 10 other games on a busy NBA schedule for Wednesday night, including LeBron James and his Cavaliers on the road in New York. Rounding out the slate: New Jersey at Washington, the Clippers at Orlando, Miami at Detroit, Denver at Oklahoma City, Chicago at New Orleans, Atlanta at Minnesota, Houston at Memphis, Portland at Dallas, & Phoenix at Golden State.

The March to Madness

Last week’s loss to Wake Forest dropped Duke to No. 4 in the Top 25 poll, so they’ll try to bolster themselves on Wednesday with a win on the road against No. 10 Clemson. The Blue Devils got past Virginia 79-54 on Sunday, with Gerald Henderson scoring 18 points; they’re now at 19-2 SU and 11-8-1 ATS. Clemson (18-2 SU, 7-7-1 ATS) is coming off an 86-82 win over Virginia Tech last contest.

There’s one other ranked matchup on the college hoops schedule for Wednesday, with No. 13 Michigan State hosting No. 19 Minnesota. As well, it’s West Virginia at No. 20 Syracuse, No. 7 Wake Forest at Miami, No. 17 Villanova at Providence, No. 14 Memphis at SMU, Texas A&M at No. 2 Oklahoma, and Missouri at No. 16 Texas, while Southern Cal hits the road to play No. 15 UCLA.

Rounding Out the Slate

Unemployed outfielder Manny Ramirez has reportedly been offered a one-year, $25 million contract from the Dodgers, but is still holding out for a better deal. Vegas sportsbooks have Los Angeles at 10/1 odds to win the 2009 World Series, which puts them behind the Yankees (11/4), Cubs (11/2), Red Sox (15/2), and Phillies (17/2). The Mets, another rumored suitor for Ramirez, are pegged at 10/1 World Series odds as spring training approaches, with the Rays just behind them at 12/1 odds. The other L.A. club, the Angels, sits at 13/1 odds on the list right now.

Tipping Off in the NBA

With their early-January swoon now well behind them the Celtics will be gunning for their 12th consecutive victory on Tuesday night when they play on the road against the Sixers. Boston improved to 40-9 straight-up and 28-21 against-the-spread on the season with a 109-101 win over Minnesota on Sunday, with Kevin Garnett sidelined for the game with the flu. Philadelphia fell 85-83 to New Jersey in their last contest, and they now sit at just 23-23 SU and 22-23-1 ATS this year.

A Western Conference clash between the Spurs and Nuggets in Denver highlights the rest of the NBA slate for Tuesday night. LeBron James and his Cavaliers will try to boost their lucrative 31-15 ATS record when they play host to the Raptors, while the Timberwolves will play in Indiana, and Chicago is at Houston. The Scarlet Knights (10-12 SU, 9-7 ATS) beat DePaul in their last game.

A Trip Around the Rink

Evgeni Malkin and the Penguins will try to add to the Canadiens‘ woes on Tuesday night when they arrive in Montreal for a 7:30pm ET puck drop. The Habs lost 3-1 to rival Boston on Sunday afternoon, and they also lost key center Robert Lang indefinitely with a serious achilles injury. The Penguins are coming off a wild 5-4 loss to the Maple Leafs on Saturday night to end January 24-22-5.

Alexander Ovechkin had a hat trick against the Senators in a 7-4 Capitals win on Sunday; he’ll take his show to New Jersey to play the Devils on Tuesday. Also on the NHL’s slate for the night: St. Louis at Columbus, Tampa Bay at the Islanders, Florida at Toronto, Los Angeles at Ottawa, Phoenix at Nashville, Atlanta at the Rangers, Chicago at Edmonton, Calgary at Dallas, and Carolina at Vancouver.

Rounding Out the Slate

If you bet on the Steelers in Super Bowl XLIII on Sunday night you saw them blow their chance to cover the posted spread in the fourth quarter of the OVER result. Super Bowl Sunday

The Steelers and Cardinals will finally get down to business on Sunday when they meet in Tampa Bay for Super Bowl XLIII.  For the rundown on all the top sports picks and more it’s OffshoreInsiders.com

Here’s your Daily Sports Roundup.

The Gridiron Spotlight

After two weeks of hype and speculation there’s not much left to cover for the Super Bowl XLIII matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Arizona Cardinals at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium on Sunday. The line is still sitting at Pittsburgh -7 at most books, with the total on the high side at 46.5 points. The Steelers are 2-0 against-the-spread so far in the playoffs, covering a pair of 6-point spreads against the Ravens and Chargers. The Cards are 3-0 against the number in the postseason, which includes winning outright as an underdog twice.

Friday’s final injury report had Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward pegged as PROBABLE. Ward is the only player listed on Pittsburgh’s release; quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is rumored to have sore ribs, but he doesn’t appear on the injury report. The Cardinals have RB J.J. Arrington (knee), P Ben Graham (left groin), and DE Travis LaBoy (biceps) all listed as QUESTIONABLE heading into the game, while DE Antonio Smith (knee) is the team’s lone PROBABLE entry.

Game time for Sunday is set for 6:00pm ET, but introductions and other procedural matters should push kickoff to sometime around 6:20pm ET. Coverage is provided by NBC this year, and the halftime show is headlined by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. Prop bets abound at online sportsbooks, so there’s plenty of research to do in the hours leading up to the game. That includes looking into which color Gatorade will be dumped on the victorious head coach in the fourth quarter, so call up your locker room sources.

Other Notable Events

The NBA gets most of its schedule out of the way before the Super Bowl kicks off on Sunday, with Minnesota at Boston, Orlando at Toronto, and Cleveland at Detroit the afternoon matchups. Those three games all feature Eastern Conference division leaders. The league’s night contest, though, won’t detract from the NFL title game, as it’s a matchup between the lowly Thunder and Kings.

The Rest of the Schedule

Top-ranked Duke fell 70-68 to Wake Forest in their last contest, so they’ll be looking to get back on track on Sunday afternoon when they host Virginia. Three other ranked college hoops teams are in action on Sunday, with Penn State at No. 9 Michigan State, Iowa at No. 19 Illinois, and Cincinnati at No. 21 Villanova.

Finally, the Bruins and Canadiens will continue their rivalry in Montreal on Sunday afternoon in one of just three NHL games on the ice. Ottawa and Washington will also play a matinee, while Nashville will travel out to Edmonton.

A Peek at the Future

The NHL’s Monday schedule has just three games, with the top matchup seeing Buffalo on the road in Anaheim . . . the Magic will host the Mavericks in NBA action on Monday, while the Lakers will be in New York and Portland will be on the road in New Orleans . . . No. 2 UConn will take on No. 7 Louisville in college hoops action on Monday, while No. 3 Pittsburgh gets a visit from Robert Morris.
