Why Scouting Services Have Some Bettors Winning and Other Gamblers Losing More Than Ever

A preeminent offshore oddsmaker
stated that the schism between the sharp player and square bettor has never
been larger. “Professional bettors are winning at a higher rate than ever
before, but luckily (for sportsbooks)
there are more losing bettors,” this offshore betting pioneer asserted.

This gap is widest in NFL betting. The oddsmakers and
sharp players continue to advance, but the square gets suckered more than
anytime in history. The reasons are quite elementary.

Extensive prognostication ammo is readily available. Usage
of the thoroughgoing volume though is so time-consuming its complete deployment
is confined to the oddsmaker, learned full-time
handicappers and the professional gambler.

About 20 years ago, the boiler room sales pitches from the
toll-free blowhard touts included cookie cutter boasts about having scouts “all
over the country” work for them and crowing about “inside information”.

Now, with small monetary investments and enormous time
expenditure, bettors can have “scouts” working for them, especially in NFL predictions.
Yes, this means employing intuitiveness from former NFL players who scrutinize
game film for hours.  Who knew how
prophetic the snake oil touts really were when they alleged scouts labored for
them?

As much flack as I often take for giving props to the
four-letter evil empire, ESPN Insider continues to be one of our beloved
sources for betting intel.

Via their Scouts Inc, which is led by Jeremy Green the son
of former NFL and college coach Dennis Green, sports investors get first-rate
scouting reports from film room junkies.

Former NFL players Ron Jaworski
and Merrill Hoge also give valuable game film
insight. Jaworski has been known to camp at NFL Films
and one can bet (so to speak) that he does have a tremendous point of observation

Speaking of NFL Films, their Senior Producer Greg Cosell has his “Film Room Blog
on FantasyGuru.com, one of the best sites for fantasy football with overlapping
handicapping vantage points. In includes Cosell’s
notes from “watching coach’s tapes”. Considering his status and employer, he’s
not blowing smoke. His reports are comprehensive, profound, and invaluable for
my NFL handicapping.

Sports Xchange, touted by Howie Long and John Madden, is consumed by sundry media
outlets and by yours truly in the NFL and MLB.

How about college sports? Scout.com is the centralized
portal for Internet and hard copy team specific sites, that in their words,
“publish inside and exclusive content” on many of the teams. The caliber of
intuition varies greatly from team to team, but sifting through the filler
content often uncovers handicapping wisdom.

The next time you hear a handicapper claiming to have
scouts with inside information, he may actually be telling the truth. There is
one certainty, the oddsmakers have the skinny and the gambler is in serious hardship
without it.

The more advantages the bettors’ opponent has the less
leverage for the gambler. Make no mistake, the oddsmaker
is the enemy. The cost of not having a scout’s angle has never been greater.

The only way to counteract the munitions that the linesmaker has is to use that same artillery against him.
Luckily the bookmaker has to post odds long before the investor needs to
finalize his picks, allowing the gamester to empower superior real-time
information.

The Information Age continues to be great news for both
the oddsmakers and professional speculator, while the hunch bettor underwrites
at an accelerated rate. To that we are forever grateful.

Monday Night Football offers up a potential dud between the Jags and Texans this week, as the teams have eight total wins. Here’s your Daily Sports Roundup.

The Gridiron Spotlight

Jacksonville and Houston have identical 4-7 records heading into their AFC South divisional battle on Monday night, effectively putting both teams out of postseason contention this year. The Jags, who are the bigger disappointment, have dropped four of their past five games, including a 30-12 loss at home to Minnesota last week. David Garrard was picked off twice for the Jags that game.

The Texans are actually coming off a win – they knocked off the Browns 16-6 last weekend, thanks to one Sage Rosenfels touchdown strike (he was also picked off twice) and three Kris Brown field goals. Houston, though, lost each of their previous three contests, and they also fell 30-27 to the Jaguars back in Week 4.

Garrard is on Jacksonville‘s injury report with a sore back this week, but he went through a full practice on Friday and is listed as PROBABLE to get the start on Monday night. Rosenfels is expected to start for the Texans on Monday, but Matt Schaub (knee) is close to returning and could take over QB duties next weekend.

The oddsmakers have the Texans listed as 3-point home favorites for Monday’s game, with the total at 48 points. Houston is 5-6 ATS on the season, and 2-3 ATS at home, while Jacksonville is 3-8 ATS overall and 3-2 ATS on the road. As well, the Texans are 9-2 on the OVER/UNDER, while the Jaguars are 5-5-1. Back in Week 4 the Texans covered the listed 7-point spread in an OVER result.

To our many friends in Milwaukee, check out your weather, school closings and emergency closings on TMJ4, get the side and total from GodsTips and enjoy the great indoors.

SEC Championship Betting Line

The truth is the term “Vegas odds” ala Coke, Xerox, Scotch Tape, et al, has become more of a generic term and part of the public domain. The odds of record now come from offshore. While Vegas was the first to post odds on Florida and Alabama in the SEC Championship game, the “official” odds came out with Florida -10.5. The game is circled due to the status of Percy Harvin of the Gators.

The Gators star receiver had to leave the Florida State rout with an ankle injury and head coach Urban Myer called him questionable against the Crimson Tide. It’s an understatement to say the combined sources of OffshoreInsiders.com and Lines-Maker.com is second to none and we will continue to update on the Percy Harvin injury status for the SEC Championship game.

Other Notable Events

The NBA begins December with just three games on the schedule: Minnesota at Charlotte, Miami at Golden State, and Orlando at Boston. The Atlantic-leading Celtics ran their conference-best record to 16-2 (9-9 ATS) on the season with an 89-84 win over the Bobcats on Saturday, while the Southeast-leading Magic moved to 13-4 (9-7-1 ATS) by thumping the Pacers 110-96 in their last contest.

The Rest of the Schedule

The NHL has five games on the schedule for Monday, including Nashville at Buffalo, Vancouver at Columbus, Colorado at Minnesota, and Toronto at Los Angeles. As well, the Red Wings will get a visit from the Ducks, with Detroit coming off a 4-1 matinee loss to the Bruins on Saturday to fall to 15-4-4 this year.

Finally, college basketball tournament action subsides this week, but a few teams of note are still playing on Monday. Kansas will take on Kent State, while Wisconsin will do battle with Virginia Tech, and Connecticut will meet Delaware State. Don’t expect betting odds to be available for the Huskies/Hornets matchup.

News from the Wire

Schaub is the only player listed as QUESTIONABLE on the Texans’ official injury report for the Monday nighter. Each of DT Travis Johnson, WR Jacoby Jones, DT Amobi Okoye, and RB Steve Slaton are PROBABLE . . . both LB Brian Iwuh and WR Troy Williamson have QUESTIONABLE status on the Jags’ injury report, while Garrard, CB Rashean Mathis, and WR Dennis Northcutt sit as PROBABLE….Plaxico Burress of the NY Giants is expected to turn himself in today to police following a shooting incident…

A Peek at the Future

The NBA will offer up eight games on Tuesday night, including the Lakers at Indiana, Portland at New York, and Detroit at San Antonio . . . college football has a light schedule leading up to Saturday this week, with Middle Tennessee vs. Louisiana-Lafayette on Wednesday, Louisville vs. Rutgers on Thursday, and Ball State vs. Buffalo on Friday . . . the Chargers will host the Raiders Thursday night.

Other Betting News

The entertainment and political betting odds were right as usual at BetUs Sportsbook. Hillary Clinton is expected to be named Secretary of State today and unveil his national security team today.

The year end “what’s in and what’s out” lists will have to have Rosie O’Donnell topping the list of what’s out. Her variety show was an unmitigated failure and is likely a one-hitless wonder.
