Wayne Root Picks

We heard on Philadelphia sports radio 610 WIP today that Wayne Root had a free lock on Penn State-Ohio State. Problem is the game was played two days ago. However, that reminds us that OffshoreInsiders.com  has handicappers that win more with pregame betting picks than most sports handicappers can win if they made the picks after the game ended.

The power of 620 sports services behind every selection is the place to go to get the highest rated plays from the highest rated handicappers in their highest rated sports—guys who make picks before the games start.

Monday Night Betting

The Tennessee Titans will be looking to keep their perfect record intact on Monday when they play host to the rival Indianapolis Colts and those eating cheesesteaks at Tony Luke’s are planning a Phillies World Series Parade as the Rays take on the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. Here’s your Daily Sports Roundup. To laugh all the way to the bank, no need to put in your Tracy Smith CD, just check out all the betting picks for tonight.

The Gridiron Spotlight

The Titans are the last unbeaten team in the NFL, and they’re coming off a 34-10 thrashing of the Chiefs in Week 7. Tennessee has also paid off nicely for bettors so far this season, as they’re now 6-0 against-the-spread. The Colts are three games back of the Titans in the AFC South, as they’re 3-3 (and 2-4 ATS) in 2008. Indianapolis will be looking to forget last week’s losing result – they were pounded 34-14 by the Packers.

The Colts and Titans split their season series last year, with each team winning on the road. Indianapolis started things off with a 22-20 victory in their first meeting; Tennessee then won 16-10 in the second matchup. Both of those contests were UNDER results, and the combined scores of Colts/Titans games have been UNDER plays six straight times. As well, the Titans have picked up the ATS win in each of the last four meetings.

The Titans have been pegged as 4-point home favorites in this contest, while the total for the game is at 40.5 points. The teams are both 3-3 on the O/U through six games.

Other Notable Events

Game 5 of the World Series is set for Monday night in Philadelphia, with first pitch at 8:30pm ET. The Phillies will be looking for another big outing from ace Cole Hamels in this contest. The lefthander is now 4-0 in the postseason, and he picked up a win over the Rays in Game 1 by surrendering just two earned runs over seven innings pitched.

The Rays will counter with Scott Kazmir, who is 1-1 with two no-decisions so far in the playoffs. Kazmir was tagged with the loss in Game 1 against the Phillies, allowing three earned runs on six hits over six innings of work; that bumped his playoff ERA up to 4.15.

The Rest of the Schedule

After taking Sunday off the National Hockey League returns on Monday with six games, including a Big Apple battle between the Rangers and the Islanders. Making up the rest of the schedule: Ottawa at Buffalo, Anaheim at Columbus, Chicago at Minnesota, Boston at Edmonton, and also Detroit at Los Angeles in the lone west-coast matchup.

Sunday Rundown

Brett Favre and the Jets are the biggest favorite on the board for Week 8 of the National Football League season. Bettors already found out who to bet on to rip the Vegas spread in the NFL. Here’s a look at the matchups in your Daily Sports Roundup.

The Gridiron Spotlight

The Jets have had a middling start to the 2008 campaign – they’re just 3-3 both straight-up and against-the-spread. Still, that’s good enough to have them pegged as 13.5-point home favorites against the sputtering Chiefs on Sunday afternoon. Kansas City is just 1-5 (2-4 ATS) on the season, and they’ll have to make due without their top two quarterbacks and running back Larry Johnson on Sunday. The total is listed at 39 points.

The other big favorites on Sunday are the Texans, who are favored by 9.5 points at home against Cincinnati, and the Eagles, who are favored by 9 points at home against Atlanta. As well, the Chargers are pegged as 3-point favorites in their game against the Saints in London, and the Cowboys are favored by just 2.5 over the visiting Buccaneers.

Rounding out the NFL’s Sunday schedule: Washington (-7.5) at Detroit, Buffalo (-1.5) at Miami, St. Louis at New England (-7), Oakland at Baltimore (-7), Arizona at Carolina (-4), Cleveland at Jacksonville (-7), and the Giants at Pittsburgh (-3). Also, the Niners and their new head coach are listed as 5-point home favorites against the fading Seahawks.

Penciled in for the Phillies is Joe Blanton, who allowed three earned runs on seven hits over five innings in his NLCS start against the Dodgers.

The Rest of the Schedule

There’s a single college football game on the Sunday schedule, with Central Florida at No. 22 Tulsa. The 7-0 (5-1 ATS) Golden Hurricane are coming off a 77-35 pounding of UTEP, and they’re listed as big 23.5-point favorites against Central Florida at the sportsbooks. The Knights (2-4, 2-2-1 ATS) fell 20-14 to Miami last time out, and have lost four of their past five.

The Sprint Cup Series will stage the Pep Boys Auto 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Sunday afternoon, with standings leader Jimmie Johnson pegged at 7/1 odds to take the checkered flag. Johnson leads Greg Biffle (8/1 this weekend) by 149 points in the standings, and Jeff Burton (18/1) by 152 points. Carl Edwards, who is now 198 points back of first place, is pegged as the 5/1 favorite to get the victory in Atlanta on Sunday.
