Monday Sports and Betting Headlines

Sports betting Americans for prosperity need no stimulus petitions because they continue to win with the world’s best sports handicappers.

Today in the Daily Sports Roundup: The Rangers try to rebound in New Jersey, the Sixers get a visit from the Suns, and Pittsburgh gets ready for West Virginia.

Tipping Off in the NBA

The NBA begins its march to the weekend’s All-Star festivities with four games on the schedule for Monday night. The top matchup on the docket will take place in Philadelphia, where the Suns will take on the Sixers. Philadelphia got back over the .500 mark (25-24 straight-up) with a 94-84 win against the Heat on Saturday. Andre Miller picked up 15 points and five assists in that win for Philly.

The Clippers will be in Charlotte on Monday night; the Bobcats sent forward Adam Morrison and guard Shannon Brown to the Lakers on Saturday in exchange for forward Vladimir Radmanovic. As well, the Rockets will take to the floor in Milwaukee, while the Grizzlies will get a visit from the Hornets in Memphis.

The March to Madness

The top college hoops team in action on Monday is Pittsburgh, which will take on West Virginia at the Petersen Events Center. The Panthers had no trouble dispatching DePaul in their last contest, as they rolled to a 92-69 victory behind 32 points from DeJuan Blair. The Mountaineers are also coming off a win; they got 24 points from Alex Ruoff in an 86-59 victory over Providence on Saturday.

The only other ranked team in action on Monday is Kansas, which sat at No. 21 heading into the week. The Jayhawks knocked off Oklahoma State 78-67 in their last game, and they’ll hit the road to play Missouri on Monday. The Tigers got a 31-point effort from DeMarre Carroll in an 82-68 win over Iowa State last game.

A Trip Around the Rink

The Rangers will be trying to bounce back from an embarrassing defeat in their last contest when they take to the ice in New Jersey on Monday night. New York was blasted 10-2 by Dallas on Friday, with backup goaltender Stephen Valiquette (subbing for an ill Henrik Lundqvist) giving up those 10 markers on 39 shots. The Devils lost last time out too – the Kings beat them by a score of 3-1 on Saturday.

The only other game on the NHL schedule for Monday sees the Canadiens head west for a meeting with the Flames in Calgary. Slumping Montreal lost 5-2 to the division-rival Maple Leafs on Saturday night, and they’re just 3-7-0 in their past 10 outings. Calgary is coming off a 2-1 loss to the Ducks on Saturday afternoon.

Rounding Out the Slate

The emerging Alex Rodriguez steroid scandal hasn’t had any effect on the Yankees’ Vegas odds to win the American League pennant this season – they’re still pegged as the 7/5 favorite to be the Junior Circuit’s representative in the 2009 World Series. The Red Sox are next at 15/4, with the Rays third at 11/2. The first non-AL-East team on the list are the Angels, who sit back at 13/2 odds.

The second tier of AL contenders is topped by the Twins and Indians, who are both at 10/1 odds to win the league’s pennant, with the White Sox at 12/1, the Tigers at 13/1, and the A’s at 16/1. The Jays are back at 30/1 odds, the Rangers sit at 35/1, and the Orioles, Mariners, and Royals are the longshots at 50/1 odds.

Official Betting Preview of Lakers-Cavaliers and Spurs-Celtics

Two of the best regular season games of the year in the NBA are on ABC today. The San Antonio Spurs are at the Boston Celtics. Bodog Life has Boston laying seven with a total of 186.

That’s followed by the LA Lakers at the Cleveland Cavaliers. Bookmaker has Cleveland posted at -4.5 with a total of 206.

San Antonio comes in 4-1 straight up and 4-0-1 against the spread in their last five. As Bob Warner of Lines-Maker.com points out the home teams generally do well in the NBA because when a much more rested team plays a tired squad, the schedule usually benefits the home team.

However this is Boston’s third game in four nights while the Spurs have had four days between games.

While Boston has won 12-of-13 straight up, they’ve dropped 3-of-4 to the number. They are 10-2 against the spread to the Southwest Division. Boston is also 7-1 their last eight off a straight up win. Boston has gone under 8-1 to an opponent winning percentage of .600 or greater.

Best of all, not only is it a great day to watch sports, it’s a better day to wager on them.

Last night GodsTips suffered an excruciating overtime loss 4.5 point underdog Milwaukee loses by five in overtime. We settle for 8-4 go to 15-6 with Wise Guy plays.

The Cavaliers perfect 23-0 straight up home mark gets a serious test.  They are 18-5 to the Vegas sportsbooks at home as well.

Some betting intel: the Lakers are a perfect 7-0 after scoring 100 or more last game and are 23-9 as an underdog. Cleveland is 7-0 at home versus an opponent winning road record.

The Lake Show has gone over eight straight road games and over 22-8 off a win.
