College World Series Betting, Letterman Finally Apologizes and Arnie Lange Beats Down Joe Buch

Today in the Daily Sports Roundup: The College World Series odds take center stage again, the Nationals run into the Yankees, the Rangers get a visit from the Astros, and the Cubs and White Sox meet at Wrigley.

In fact, a sports betting expert offers some College World Series picks to beat the sportsbooks.

In the big SL vs. NZ Super Eight match, bettors have wagered on Sri Lanka to beat New Zealand.

Meeting up on the diamond . . .

The Bronx Bombers will be looking for some easy wins early this week when they play host to the Nationals at Yankee Stadium. CC Sabathia (5-4, 3.68 ERA) will get the ball for New York in the series opener on Tuesday night; the lefthander was beaten by the Red Sox in his last trip to the mound, allowing four earned runs over seven innings. Countering for the Nats will be Shairon Martis (5-1, 5.04 ERA); the righthander has allowed just three earned runs over his last 12 innings.

Meanwhile, an all-Texas interleague matchup in Arlington has the Astros’ Wandy Rodriguez (5-5, 2.82 ERA) taking on the Rangers’ Kevin Millwood (6-4, 2.72 ERA). Lefthander Rodriguez is 0-3 with a no-decision in his last four trips to the mound, but against the Cubs last time out he allowed just one earned run over seven innings. Righthander Millwood is coming off consecutive wins over the Red Sox and Blue Jays, surrendering just one unearned run over 14 2-3 innings.

Cincinnati hosts Atlanta on Tuesday in an NL-only matchup, but the rest of the slate is made up of interleague contests: the Mets at Baltimore, Milwaukee at Cleveland, Toronto at Philadelphia, Florida at Boston, Pittsburgh at Minnesota, Arizona at Kansas City, Detroit at St. Louis, Tampa Bay at Colorado, Seattle at San Diego, Oakland at the Dodgers, and the Angels at San Francisco. As well, the Cubs will begin a series at Wrigley Field on Tuesday against the White Sox.

Rounding out the Roundup . . .

Finally, there are a pair of WNBA contests on the Tuesday schedule, with Connecticut at Chicago and Minnesota at Sacramento. The Monarchs are coming off a 115-104 loss to Phoenix in their last outing on Saturday, despite Nicole Powell’s 28-point performance. Sacramento point guard Ticha Penicheiro missed that game with a thumb injury and is questionable to play Tuesday night.

Entertainment: Letterman finally apologizes…

Hollywood and entertainment betting odds dominate today as David Letterman finally apologized for his tasteless joke about Alex Rodriquez having sex with her 14-year-old daughter, while Al Roker defends his Speidi interview.

Brett Favre’s appearance on Joe Buck’s HBO show was upstaged by Artie Lange humiliating Buck.

Baseball Odds – Wednesday MLB betting picks

Bethpage Black beckons as the US Open odds have almost arrived, but we still need to kill some time before then. Interleague play continues in MLB betting, so why not make some picks for Wednesday’s games? Let’s have a look.

Angels Giants odds
Wednesday, June 17, 3:45 PM ET
Matt Palmer (6-0, 4.11) vs Tim Lincecum (6-1, 2.66)

You may think you have a beauty upset pick for this Wednesday matinee, but betting management requires deep research if you really want to succeed. Look closer at the numbers; yes, Matt Palmer is 6-0, but how did he achieve that mark? He’s allowed four or more runs in five of his eight starts this season but has an amazing 9.5 runs of support from his offense in his six wins. Translation: he’s frigginlucky. Something tells me the Angels won’t score as much when they face Tim Lincecum Wednesday. He’s as dominant as ever and his home ERA (2.41) is even lower than his already-low overall ERA. With Torii Hunter also nursing an injury, the Angels’ MLB odds don’t look so hot.

MLB betting pick: Giants

Blue Jays Phillies odds
Wednesday, June 17, 7:05 p.m. ET
Scott Richmond (4-3, 3.90) vs Jamie Moyer (4-5, 6.11)

The Jays are falling fast, but they’ll latch onto an outstretched branch Wednesday night—a withered branch named Jamie Moyer. Everything about Moyers‘ numbers suggest he’ll be absolutely bombed—namely, the career averages of Marco Scutaro (.379), Vernon Wells (.342), Lyle Overbay (.462) and Aaron Hill (.375) against him. While his game log suggests he’s turning things around, he still gets rocked at home—he’s allowed nine homers in 33 innings this season. Scott Richmond continues to hang in there for the Jays and, while I wouldn’t be surprised if Howard, Utley and Ibanez take him for a ride, he should get oodles of run support. The Jays will likely be sportsbook underdogs, so they make for solid MLB picks.

MLB betting pick: Blue Jays
