Baseball Betting – Friday MLB Picks

Put down that college football betting cheat sheet! The baseball season isn’t over yet and you’ll miss the pennant races if you’re not careful. Let’s make a few picks for Friday’s games.

Chicago White Sox @ Detroit Tigers

Friday, July 24, 7:05 p.m. ET

Bartolo Colon (3-6, 4.23) vs Eddie Bonine (0-0, 9.00)

Eddie who? The Tigers are taking a big chance sending the unknown Bonine to the hill Friday in a crucial divisional game. The question is whether or not you should take that chance too. I say no. Just as shouldn’t take a dumb chance on the Lions’ football odds this season, there’s no reason to trust Bodine. He hasn’t started a game this season and he’s allowed at least one run in all five of his relief appearances.

It doesn’t matter that Colon is making his first start since a DL stint. He has the better lineup backing him and Bonine’s track record stinks.

Daily baseball pick: White Sox

Minnesota Twins @ Los Angeles Angels

Friday, July 24, 10:05 p.m. ET

Francisco Liriano (4-9, 5.33) vs John Lackey (5-4, 4.39)

Many bettors are starting to believe in John Lackey again. While I do too in the long haul, I don’t like the Angels on Friday. Lackey hasn’t pitched well at home this season and Francisco Liriano has pitched very well against the Angels in a small sample of innings, holding Chone Figgins, Vladimir Guerrero, Kendry Morales and Maice Izturis hitless.

The Twins will offer good underdog value and it’s good betting management to back Liriano right now. He struggled early in the season but his ERA has fallen under 4.00 for two straight months and his strikeout rate has returned to its lofty level.

Daily baseball pick: Twins

Thursday Night MLB Betting Previews

Poor Michelle Beisner, now having her name dragged into the Erin Andrew’s peephole disgrace. Shouldn’t we be more concerned with the Tour de France Stage 18 results?  Let other sites worry about Omer Bhatti pictures and gossip, but we will focus on what the top baseball handicappers are worrying about.

The New York Yankees will try for a seventh straight victory tonight when they send CC Sabathia to the mound to open a four-game home series against the Oakland Athletics.

New York trailed Boston by three games entering the All-Star break, but is 6-0 since resuming play to take over sole possession of first place. The Yankees have won 19 of 26 overall to move 20 games above .500 for the first time since finishing 94-68 in 2007.

Sabathia has alternated wins and losses in his last five outings. He gave up five hits over seven scoreless innings Saturday in a 2-1 victory over Detroit.

The +230 underdog A’s are embarking on what is likely their toughest road trip, with four games in New York followed by four in Boston.

Oakland rookie Vin Mazzaro, who grew up a Yankees fan in Rutherford, New Jersey, will face New York for the first time.

As the MLB season rolls on, the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies are right where they want to be. So what deals are out there to push the two title favorites over the top?

It is believed that the Phillies are at the top of the list for who will land Roy Halladay from the Blue Jays.

Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi expects the Halladay trade talks will come to a head early next week.

Assuming the Yankees don’t want Halladay, they seem pretty content with their current roster.

New York has been very impressive lately, taking over first place and playing well overall.

As long as CC Sabathia and A.J. Burnett keep doing what they are doing, the Yankees may just stick with what they got as they chase the AL Pennant.

Expect the Phillies to be the team to make a few more moves before the trade deadline. Thanks to our friends at Bodog for supplying the content.

Yahoo Sports Odds

The ESPN odds and the Yahoo Sports odds are perhaps the
most high profile for the casual gambler and fine for those who bet parlay
cards at the office. For serious sportsbook
bettors the NCAA
football betting line
which is more accurate than the college football
point spreads ESPN.

Also much better than the Fox Sports odds would be the preseason NFL point
spread
and the regular season NFL odds.

No wise wagering expert would bet the ESPN NFL picks or
the ESPN college picks. In fact one would be better
off fading them just as some sharpies do to the Fox NFL picks.

For the best football spread winners it’s the free sports

give and of course the best premium football handicappers are on the

Erin Andrews Peephole Fallout: ESPN Takes Action Against NY Post Staff

Today in the Daily Sports Roundup: The PGA Tour hits the links in Canada, the Yankees take on the Athletics, and the Diamondbacks send their ace to the hill. Plus ESPN takes action against the NY Post over the Erin Andrews exploitation.

Sports headlines

OffshoreInsiders.com is calling out Bill O’Reilly and challenging him to rightfully lambaste his parent company, the NY Post for posting pictures of the Erin Andrews video peephole pictures. Somewhere between bloviating about Hoboken mayor Peter Cammarano, the star of Murdoch’s media needs to give a no-spin repudiation of the Post’s exploitation.

Kudos to ESPN for banning any NY Post staff from appearing on their show…A criminal probe is unlikely in the allegations made against Ben Roethlisberger by Andrea McNulty.

Colliding in the Junior Circuit  . . .

CC Sabathia (9-6, 3.66 ERA) will try to pitch the Yankees to a win on Thursday night when he takes on the Athletics and Vin Mazzaro (2-6, 4.09 ERA). Lefthander Sabathia dominated the Tigers in his last trip to the mound, tossing seven shutout innings and giving up just five hits in the victory. New  York is 5-5 in Sabathia’s last 10 starts. Righthander Mazzaro was knocked around by the Angels last time out, giving up eight runs (four earned) over three innings pitched.

Also on the American League schedule for Thursday: Cleveland at Toronto, Seattle at Detroit, Tampa Bay at the White Sox, and Minnesota at the Angels. The Twins will go with Scott Baker (8-7, 5.10 ERA) on Thursday night; righthander Baker has won two straight starts, holding the Rangers to one run over eight innings last time out. Jered Weaver (10-3, 3.48 ERA) took a no-decision versus the Athletics last week, surrendering five runs over 3 2-3 innings.

Clashing in the Senior Circuit . . .

There are just four games on the National League schedule for Thursday, with San Francisco at Atlanta, St. Louis at Washington, San Diego at Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh at Arizona. Probable Pirates starter Charlie Morton (2-2, 3.21 ERA) cruised to a win over the Giants last time out, holding them scoreless on three hits over seven innings of work. The Diamondbacks will counter with Dan Haren (10-5, 1.96 ERA), who has earned the victory in each of his last four starts.

Rounding out the Roundup . . .

The PGA Tour is at Glen Abbey in Oakville, Ontario this week for the RBC Canadian Open. Retief Goosen is pegged as the 8/1 Vegas favorite to capture the tournament, with Anthony Kim (10/1), Camilo Villegas (15/1), and Sean O’Hair (15/1) following him on the odds list. Also pegged at 15/1 is Canadian Mike Weir, while countryman Stephen Ames sits just back at 20/1. Luke Donald (20/1) and Kevin Na (25/1) complete the first tier of contenders at the tournament.

The Canadian Football League begins Week 4 action on Thursday night with Hamilton at Montreal. The undefeated Alouettes (3-0 straight-up and against-the-spread) pounded Saskatchewan 43-10 last time out, and they’ve put up 133 points over their first three games. The surprising Tiger-Cats (2-1 SU, 2-1 ATS) got past Winnipeg 25-13 in their last contest. Oddsmakers have the Alouettes listed as 14-point home favorites for Friday, with the total pegged at 54.5 points.

Finally, there are three WNBA games on tap for Thursday, with Chicago at Washington, Sacramento at New York, and Indiana at San Antonio. The Fever improved to 12-3 SU (10-5 ATS) with an 82-70 win over Washington on Tuesday night; Indiana‘s 11-game winning streak had come to an end in their previous contest. The Silver Stars sit at 6-8 SU and 5-9 ATS on the season after falling to Chicago 85-75 last time out. Becky Hammon picked up 22 points in that defeat.
