Maryland-Virginia Tech Free Pick

The boxing odds between Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao and Miguel Angel “JunitoCotto are hotter than the Carrie Prejean sextape stream, but Matt Rivers is more scorching than both.

I don’t care how bad Ralph Friedgen’s 2-7 Terrapins have been. I don’t care if Maryland is without their starting quarterback in Chris Turner. I don’t care if Virginia Tech’s defense is lights out.

This number is too much. Have you seen Tyrod Taylor and that Tech offense recently? They have been atrocious. East Carolina‘s defense just looked like the Baltimore Ravens against the Hokies.

Ryan Williams has been able to run the ball all season long and is extremely legitimate but when you have no passing game and continue to feed a back then you can figure the game will be shortened with this running game as the clock continues to wind.

Frank Beamer’s squad reached something like number five in the polls a month or so ago and then bam. They went to Georgia Tech and got beaten up. Don’t let the five point loss, 28-23, fool you as that was an ass-kicing. 12 days later with a lot of time to prepare the offense was a deer in headlights at home in the outright loss against North Carolina as the 17 point chalk. Then last week they eeked out in horrificly ugly fashion the 16-3 win against the Pirates.

Virginia Tech now goes to College Park against a Maryland team that has certainly struggled immensely this season. I’m not saying that we are going to see a 180 from the home turtle, especially if we don’t have Turner calling the signals, but a bad offense laying such a number on the road is just silly. Plus don’t think that the Terps don’t have any talent. Sure it’s not like during the good times but there are still some athletes in this program, just ask CJ Spiller and Clemson who came to Maryland earlier in the season as the 12 ½ point favorite and left as a loser.

Maryland probably won’t score a ton against Tech but in the end this number is just way too much and certainly worth a play.

Can you say 21-10? I can.

For more information: I am 3-0 so far with my college football 300,000* plays since joining the site: Washington (plus 19) at USC wins outright. Maryland (plus 12 ½) vs. Clemson wins outright; Notre Dame (plus 10) covers vs. USC on Saturday. My monster 300K double digit underdog will cover with ease Saturday. NHL Betting – Saturday Hockey Picks

Sportsbook employees have extremely busy weekends ahead, don’t they? We’ve got the Pacquiao Cotto odds, UFC 105, the NBA, the NFL…and that still leaves the NHL! Let’s make some hockey picks for Saturday night.

Washington Capitals @ New Jersey Devils
Saturday, November 14, 7:00 p.m. ET

Think bringing Jacques Lemaire back to New Jersey was a good idea? Sheesh. 9-0 on the road? Check. NHL-low 2.03 goals against average? Check. Seven straight wins? Check. Wins in 10 of 11? Check. Lemaire has the Devils looking like their dominant selves of 10 years ago.

The Capitals have won three straight games even though Alex Ovechkin is watching from the press box due to an upper-body injury. They’re getting offensive contributions from Mike Green and the likes of Tomas Fleischmann, who has stepped up his play in Ovie’s absence. The problem is that the Caps’ three consecutive victories came against Islanders and Panthers twice. Those aren’t exactly challenging opponents. Battling the league’s hottest team is a tough task. Since the Devils are so superb defensively, the Caps will feel the Ovechkin void more than normal. Pick the Devils.

Pick: Devils

Buffalo Sabres @ Philadelphia Flyers
Saturday, November 14, 7:00 p.m. ET

Did anyone see the Sabres coming this year? Most of us thought they’d trend the way of Buffalo‘s NFL odds – downward. But the Sabres sit atop the Northeast division thanks to phenomenal goaltending from Ryan Miller, timely scoring and the emergence of behemoth Tyler Myers on the blueline. As hot as Buffalo has been, however, it’s not as hot as Philly.

The Flyers, riding a five-game win streak, are a brutal matchup for the Sabres. Power forwards like Jeff Carter and Scott Hartnell make the Flyers bruising on the forecheck; Chris Pronger and Braydon Coburn are physical blueline presences. The Sabres are just too small to handle the Flyers’ aggression. They also play Calgary, another rough-and-tumble team, on Friday night, so the thought of them entering a battle with the Flyers already tired is ominous. The Flyers’ odds are looking better than even the Eagles’ Super Bowl odds at the moment.

Pick: Flyers
