Duke vs. North Carolina Spread Pick and Preview

OffshoreInsiders.com Senior Sports Handicapper Matt Rivers has a free sports pick Saturday and it’s is on North Carolina (-0) hosting Duke.

Reasoning: I’m not calling the Tar Heels at around a pick a great value of sorts because all in all Coach K’s Blue Devils are still the superior team that should go further in the tournament but in this revenge spot at home I’ll take my chances with Carolina blue.

I’m just not fully sold on Duke as a legitimate number one type team. Sure they’re really good with Nolan Smith, Kyle Singler and a bunch of quality players but after losing Brian Zoubek and Lance Thomas from last season the big men are not all that right now as the Plumlee Brothers are nothing more than good and without Jon Scheyer and Kyrie Irving running the show the Dookies are not a great team, they’re just not.

North Carolina is not all the way back after the disaster of last season but Roy Williams’ squad has made great strides and is a confident squad that continues to improve. Today is the game where they are going to go full steam ahead. The ACC title is on the line along with a matter of revenge and the Heels are playing at the Dean Dome. It’s just tough for me to see Duke coming into hostile territory in this rivalry and being able to sweep this series. If you watched the first game between the teams about a month ago it was apparent in that thing how UNC was the definite better team. The Devils made a great comeback in the victory as they nailed everything in that eight or so minute stretch but they did not cover in the end and certainly did not deserve to grab the cash.

Harrison Barnes may be a one and done superstar, John Henson is a really tough inside presence and all in all the Heels are once again a team that is going to cause anybody fits and especially on their home court.

It’s very possible for these teams to meet another time or two before the season is out and for Duke to flex its muscles but on this night I’m just fine with the Tar Heels getting some payback in their friendly confines.

The pick: North Carolina

NBA in London: Raptors at Nets

Senior Writer Vegas Matty previews the Toronto Raptors at New Jersey Nets in London

The Toronto Raptors (17-44) and New Jersey Nets (17-43) are not exactly the ideal matchup for the first of two NBA games between the teams on Friday at London’s O2 Arena.  But at least the Nets (-2.5) and Raptors have nearly identical records and should be able to showcase the world’s best professional basketball league for the British fans in attendance.

New Jersey was worried that newly-acquired point guard Deron Williams would not be able to play due to a sore right wrist and left hand injury that have both been bothering him lately.  But Williams will not miss this opportunity to end a six-game series losing streak against Toronto overseas.  He hopes to return to London next summer for the Olympics as part of Team USA.

“I plan to be back over here for the Olympics,” Williams said.  “Hopefully get my second gold medal.”

Williams has done plenty of traveling off the court over the last week since being dealt from Utah to the Nets prior to the NBA trade deadline.  He joined the team in San Antonio during a three-game road trip and then went to Houston before playing his first home game in New Jersey on Monday, a 104-103 overtime loss to Phoenix.  The OVER has cashed in each of his first three games with the Nets, as they are averaging a little over 102 points per game with him.  Williams is averaging 14 points and nearly 16 assists per game, numbers Jason Kidd would be proud of.

Kidd used to battle Toronto in the playoffs when he was an All-Star in New Jersey, but now both teams are far from that level of play.  The Nets are riding a six-game losing streak, going 2-4 against the spread.  The Raptors have dropped 11 in a row on the road, failing to cover their last seven away from home.

Toronto is 2-3 both SU and ATS since the All-Star break, beating a pair of potential playoff teams in Chicago (118-113) and New Orleans (96-90) at home.  The Raptors got a game-high 22 points and 16 assists from Spanish point guard Jose Calderon, who knows what it is like to travel long distances between the United States and Europe.

“Always the first day, it’s kind of tough when you arrive in Europe after the flight,” Calderon said. “But we’ll be OK – we just got to practice a little bit, sweat, get a good night’s sleep, and from there we’ll be ready for Friday.”

The UNDER has cashed in the last three meetings, all of which Toronto has won and covered.  The total has also gone UNDER in two of the past three games for the Raptors overall.  With jetlag a definite possibility, a low-scoring affair might be the best bet of this game, with both teams scheduled to play again on Saturday before returning home to the United States.

Top expert pick on today’s card: Friday’s great card is highlighted by Perfect Play from Stevie Vincent, which means a stat that is 100 percent with at least 12 games. The top angle in each contest is a combined 49-3. Unlike touts on inferior sites, we don’t make claims we can’t back up. You get the exact angles unlocked inside the plays. Every top service pick is on OffshoreInsiders.com.

Big East March Madness Betting Pick

OffshoreInsiders.com Senior Sports Handicapper Matt Rivers has a pick Thursday is on St. John’s (-2) at Seton Hall.

At some point Steve Lavin’s boys have got to come back down to Earth a bit but until that happens I’ll ride them here. The Red Storm have quite possibly been the story of the season in all of college hoops. This team has gone from extremely mediocre which included losses to Fordham and St. Bonaventure to looking like the best team in the best conference in the nation and I really do mean that literally.

St. John’s went on the road and won at West Virginia and Providence a while back to start the run and at Madison Square Garden have dismantled Duke, Georgetown, Connecticut and nipped Pittsburgh. They also won at Marquette, Cincinnati and Villanova as part of this current six game winning streak and the Johnnies have now won eight of their last 9 games.

At 19-9 overall and 11-5 in the Big East it’s just not a fluke, it can’t be. St. John’s is an experienced squad that is as veteran as they come and is a four or five seed at worst. Dwight Hardy is blowing up and Justin Brownleee, Paris Horne, DJ Kennedy and a few others are as confident as confidant could ever be. Lavin may have not been the greatest coach in his UCLA days but everything has been clicking lately and if it comes to a screeching halt today then so be it.

Seton Hall is not bad and has a solid upside. I have even played the Pirates a few times recently and don’t really have a problem with Jeremy Hazell, Eniel Polynice, Jordan Theodore and Herb Pope. I readily admit that the Hall is a far better team than the 11-17 record indicates and believe that the home squad should be able to hang around today.

In the end though St. John’s is at such a level right now and have won so many games late that there is just a semi heir of invincibility and that should be enough against a Seton Hall team that has yet to really learn how to close out a game.

This should be a solid and fairly tight game but after 40 minutes the Storm should continue this phenomenal run.

The pick: St. John’s from Matt Rivers

For more information: Southern Mississippi last night led for 36 of the 40 minutes, literally, and could not cash that ticket in the end. Think about that, leading for basically 90% of the time and not able to take care of business, yuck. When it rains it pours I guess but no sweat as I am as confident as ever and ready to smack that Crookie with conviction.

NBA Odds: Magic vs. Heat Sports Betting Preview, Picks, Predictions

Senior Writer Vegas Matty

The NBA’s battle of Florida will take place in South Beach on Thursday night when the Orlando Magic (39-22) visit the Miami Heat (43-17) in a nationally televised Southeast Division matchup.  The Magic hosted the first two meetings between the teams, splitting the pair with the Heat (-5).

Orlando was able to accomplish something Miami could not in beating New York 116-110 on Tuesday.  The Magic allowed Chauncey Billups, Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire to score 85 points for the Knicks, but limited everybody else and took advantage of the team defensively.  Magic point guard Jameer Nelson was able to burn Billups in the second half, scoring 23 of his 26 points after the intermission while Dwight Howard scored a team-high 30 points and grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds.

New York had led 58-47 at halftime after outscoring Orlando 37-15 in the second quarter.  The Knicks used a similar run in the second quarter on Sunday at Miami, outscoring the Heat 29-17 in an eventual 91-86 victory.  Miami lost for the second time in three games in similar fashion and has struggled in low-scoring games.  The Heat are 1-3 straight-up and 0-4 against the spread in their last four games that have gone UNDER the total and 1-7 ATS in their past eight under that scenario.

Miami has simply struggled in close-game situations, going 5-11 in those decided by five points or less.  The Heat figured to have a number of high-profile closers who can make big shots down the stretch in LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Mike Miller and Eddie House, but they have often looked lost when the game is on the line in the final minutes.  They have also added another strong game finisher in point guard Mike Bibby, who signed with the team on Wednesday.

Bibby was averaging just 9.1 points and 3.6 assists with Atlanta before he was dealt to Washington for Kirk Hinrich, but he has averaged 15.4 points and 5.7 assists in 940 career regular-season games.  He played two games for the Wizards and was so unhappy with the situation that he agreed to a contract buyout with Washington that made him a free agent.  Signing with Miami seemed like a no-brainer for the 13-year veteran, who chose another shot at a championship over the $6.2 million he would have made with the Wizards.

If nothing else, Bibby should help the team’s offense by providing yet another scoring option.  That would certainly be welcome here, as both earlier meetings between the Heat and Magic went OVER the total, and Miami would like to see that trend continue.  The Heat have won 10 straight games when the OVER cashes, going 8-2 ATS.

Top expert pick on today’s card: A March Madness betting flash alert has been issued due to the fact the top long-term winning percentage sports service is on a volcanic recent tear. Stevie Vincent is the King of Offshore because of winning at a sustained rate never before seen in sports betting. He is 6-1 the last two nights with all selections.

Matt Rivers Sports Handicapper Free Picks: St. Bonaventure over Duquesne

OffshoreInsiders.com Senior Sports Handicapper Matt Rivers has a Wednesday winner is on St. Bonaventure (+12.5) at Duquesne.

Reasoning: Duquesne is still the more talented team and the overall superior team on the court today but after losing five of their last six games how can one not take a stab plus the dozen or so?

The Bonnies are much improved from the past when they were absolute garbage. This team is a respectable 15-12 overall and 7-7 in the Atlantic-10. Are they good? No, but they have beaten Buffalo, St. John’s and today’s foe in the Dukes. No doubt it is a major revenge spot for Bill Clark, Damian Saunders and the Dukes but I just don’t see this team being able to lace them up right now and whack a decent enough opponent, which St. Bonaventure has become. The confidence has to be waning and maybe, just maybe, this team really isn’t nearly as good as they showed in the 11-game winning streak. After all they are still “Duquesne”.

I will give them credit as the Dukes were absolutely rolling in the middle of the season and looking as if they were going to definitely make the tournament. They were seeming like a legitimate squad in the midst of a breakthrough season but then the you know what hit the fan after losing to the Bonnies and the bleeding has yet to be stopped in losing five of the last six games. It’s also not like they have been losing to upper echelon teams, as the likes of St. Louis, Dayton and Rhode Island are not much better than mediocre this season.

We will need Andrew Nicholson to come close to the 28 points he put up in that last game against St. Joe’s. But it is possible if not probable.

The skid will more than likely not reach six of seven, as I’m hard pressed to truly believe that St. Bonaventure can actually win this game. But to get around a dozen is enough to give it a go.

Top expert pick on this game: St. Bonaventure.

For more information: Wiscy Green Bay was looking great and then all of a sudden collapsed last night. Up at the break getting 5 ½ and then boom. Back at it and just like on Monday, when I released one 300,000* play on Notre Dame and won by a billion, I’m going to do the same here with a similar chalk and watch that team take care of business with the ease of Notre Dame. Tonight, get that one 300,000* cheaper than cheap chalk that rocks the hut. No ands, ifs or buts, a flat out winner, period! Tonight’s portfolio is at OffshoreInsiders.com

Bulls vs. Hawks Vegas Betting Preview

OffshoreInsiders.com Senior Writer Vegas Matty previews the Bulls vs. Hawks.

The Chicago Bulls (41-17) can surpass last season’s win total with a win against the Atlanta Hawks (36-24) on Wednesday during the second stop of an important five-game road trip.  However, the Bulls will need to snap a skid of five straight losses at Atlanta if they are going to accomplish that feat against the Hawks.

Chicago started the road trip with a 105-77 rout of Washington on Monday behind 21 points apiece from Derrick Rose and Luol Deng.  Five Bulls scored in double figures including Carlos Boozer and Joakim Noah, who combined to grab 21 rebounds as well.  They have gone 7-1 straight-up and against the spread in their last eight games but will be facing Atlanta for the first time this season.

The Hawks have won the last five home meetings with Chicago by an average of 16.2 points but could be without forward Josh Smith due to a knee injury he suffered in a 100-90 loss at Denver on Monday that closed out a seven-game road trip sandwiched around the All-Star break.  They went 3-4 SU and ATS on the trip, with only one of the wins coming against a team with a winning record.

A return home to Atlanta should help the team bounce back, especially considering the past success against the Bulls there.  The Hawks have won 14 of their last 18 home games despite dropping two in a row there before the start of their road trip.  They are 6-1 ATS in the last seven meetings overall with the OVER 7-1 in the past eight games between the teams.

Former Chicago guard Kirk Hinrich may also make his home debut with Atlanta after coming over in a trade for Mike Bibby last Thursday.  Hinrich did not play Monday against the Nuggets due to a calf injury but scored eight points off the bench in a 90-83 victory at Portland on Sunday.

If this game comes down to defense, the Bulls would figure to have a decisive edge.  They have held their last three opponents to an average of 80.3 points on 38 percent shooting from the field, which has coincided with Noah’s recent return from a thumb injury.  In his first game back, Chicago surrendered 118 points in a loss at Toronto.  But he seems to be finding his groove on the floor, and that has translated to three consecutive dominating defensive performances.  The total has gone UNDER in each of the team’s last three games after four straight OVERs.

Top expert pick on today’s card: Yesterday, bettors were assured, “Make no mistake about it. Tuesday is one of the biggest days of the season in pro basketball for Stevie Vincent clients.” The Great One Stevie Vincent delivers with a sweep of Lakers and under plus Golden State as Level 5. The founder of forensic sports handicapping added Toronto under as a Level 4.
