The Gridiron Spotlight

The Giants just keep winning – and that has them as the 2/1 favorite to win the Super Bowl once again this season on the Vegas futures odds. The Titans, who tasted defeat for the first time on the weekend, are second at 9/2, with the Steelers at 5/1, Brett Favre and his Jets at 6/1, and both the Cowboys and Colts at 8/1. The Patriots and Cardinals then sit at 12/1 odds to claim the championship this season, with the Panthers and Buccaneers just back at 15/1.

Other Notable Events

The San Jose Sharks will put their 11-0-1 home record on the line on Wednesday night when they play host to the Chicago Blackhawks. The Sharks began their current home stand on Saturday with a 7-2 pounding of the Washington Capitals, as Ryane Clowe scored twice. Brian Boucher was between the pipes for San Jose in that game, but Evgeni Nabokov is now back from injury.

The Blackhawks are coming off a 5-4 comeback win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night, and they’ll be trying to improve on their 4-3-1 road record. Also on the NHL schedule on a busy Wednesday: Boston at Buffalo, Phoenix at Columbus, Philadelphia at Carolina, Pittsburgh at the Islanders, Atlanta at Washington, Montreal at Detroit, New Jersey at Florida, the Rangers at Tampa Bay, Dallas at Minnesota, St. Louis at Colorado, and L.A. at Edmonton.

The Rest of the Schedule

There are plenty of NBA games on tap for Wednesday as well, with 13 games on the schedule. The biggest mismatch on the day’s calendar should take place in Cleveland, where LeBron James and his Cavaliers will get a visit from the lowly Oklahoma City Thunder. Interim Thunder coach Scott Brooks will guide the team.

Rounding out the NBA’s Wednesday slate: Milwaukee at Atlanta, Charlotte at Toronto, Orlando at Philadelphia, Golden State at Boston, New York at Detroit, Phoenix at Minnesota, Indiana at Houston, Chicago at San Antonio, Memphis at Utah, New Jersey at Sacramento, Miami at Portland, and Denver at the Clippers.

Finally, the Maui Invitational and Great Alaska Shootout will continue to provide college basketball action on Wednesday, while the Preseason NIT will stage its two semi-final matchups: Boston College vs. Purdue, and Oklahoma vs. UAB. Those two games will be at Madison Square Garden, with the title game Friday.
