\nis the only Atlantic Coast Conference team with four wins against Florida<\/st1:PlaceName>
\nState<\/st1:PlaceType><\/st1:place> since the Seminoles joined
\nthe league 14 years ago. Three have come under Amato, now in his seventh season
\nat his alma mater after spending the previous 18 years at FSU as an assistant
\nto Bobby Bowden. No matter the reason, the Wolfpack (2-2, 1-0 ACC) has always
\nfound a way to match up with the Seminoles (3-1, 1-1) under Amato. N.C.<\/st1:PlaceName>
\nState<\/st1:PlaceType><\/st1:place> was the first ACC team to
\nbeat Florida<\/st1:PlaceName> State<\/st1:PlaceType><\/st1:place>
\non the road in 2001, then followed that with a 17-7 win here the following season.
\nLast year, Andre Brown ran for 179 yards and two touchdowns to lead the
\nWolfpack past the Seminoles 20-15 on the road, becoming the first ACC team to
\nwin twice at Doak<\/span> Campbell Stadium. Even the recent
\nlosses have been close, with N.C.<\/st1:PlaceName> State<\/st1:PlaceType><\/st1:place>
\nlosing in double-overtime on the road in 2003 and 17-10 here in \u201804. The
\nSeminoles are more worried instead about coming out of a bye week with a league
\nwin. Florida<\/st1:PlaceName> State<\/st1:PlaceType><\/st1:place>
\nopened the year by beating league rival Miami<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>,
\nbut lost to Clemson 27-20 three weeks ago to drop in the ACC\u2019s Atlantic
\nDivision standings. Now it\u2019s N.C.<\/st1:PlaceName> State<\/st1:PlaceType><\/st1:place>
\nsitting atop the division – along with unbeaten Wake<\/st1:PlaceName>
\nForest<\/st1:PlaceType><\/st1:place> – after a last-second win
\nagainst Boston<\/st1:PlaceName> College<\/st1:PlaceType><\/st1:place>
\ntwo weeks ago.<\/p>\n

TCU<\/span> went from having the nation\u2019s
\nlongest winning streak to dropping out of the Top 25.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

The defending Mountain West Conference champions are
\ntrying to keep the damage from getting even worse when they visit Utah<\/st1:place><\/st1:State>
\non Thursday. Until a week ago, the Horned Frogs (3-1, 0-1 MWC<\/span>) had won 13 straight and had the longest winning streak
\nin Division I-A.<\/span> That ended with a 31-17 loss to Brigham Young last
\nThursday in Fort Worth<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>. The Utes
\n(3-2, 1-0) can sympathize. Utah<\/st1:place><\/st1:State>
\nhad an 18-game winning streak – the nation\u2019s longest at the time – before
\nlosing to the Horned Frogs 23-20 in overtime in TCU\u2019s<\/span>
\nMountain West debut. After going unbeaten in the league a year ago, TCU<\/span> is 0-1 in the Mountain West and out of the AP poll for
\nthe first time this season. A loss to the Utes on Thursday could all but knock
\nthe Frogs out of contention to defend their conference title even with six more
\ngames to play. Patterson said quarterback Jeff Ballard, who injured his
\nshoulder against BYU<\/span>, will start Thursday. He rested
\nthis week as backup Marcus Jackson worked with the first team. TCU<\/span> is 11-1 with Ballard starting.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

TCU<\/span> running back Aaron Brown did
\nnot make the trip because of a sore right ankle. Lonta<\/span>
\nHobbs, who returned last week after missing a year with a groin injury, is the
\nprobable starter Thursday. Utah<\/st1:place><\/st1:State>
\nhad won three straight before the Boise<\/st1:PlaceName>
\nState<\/st1:PlaceType><\/st1:place> game, which was the Utes\u2019
\nworst home loss since 1989.<\/p>\n

An MRI<\/span> exam showed no
\nsignificant damage to the throwing shoulder of TCU<\/span>
\nquarterback Jeff Ballard, and coach<\/span> Gary Patterson
\nsaid Tuesday that the senior will start Thursday night, when the Horned Frogs play
\nat Utah<\/st1:place><\/st1:State>. However, Patterson said,
\nTCU<\/span> will be without three key players in another
\nimportant Mountain West Conference game as the Frogs try to rebound from their
\nfirst loss since early 2005. Sophomore Aaron Brown, TCU\u2019s<\/span>
\nleading rusher, won\u2019t travel to Utah<\/st1:place><\/st1:State>
\nafter injuring his right ankle against BYU<\/span>. Brown,
\nwhose injury originally was thought to be minor, didn\u2019t take any snaps during
\npractices this week.Senior<\/span> running back Robert
\nMerrill also will not travel with the team as he continues to rehabilitate from
\noff-season back surgery. The rushing load will fall to senior Lonta<\/span> Hobbs, who played against BYU<\/span>
\nfor the first time since last season.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

On defense, junior safety David Roach will remain in Fort
\nWorth<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> with an injured right ankle. Defensive end Chase
\nOrtiz, however, practiced with the first-team defense Tuesday and is expected
\nto play with a shoulder injury.<\/o:p><\/p>\n
