It is significant<br \/>\nconsidering where we started,\u201d <st1:place>Rutgers<\/st1:place> coach Greg <span\nclass=SpellE>Schiano<\/span> told the Associated Press. \u201cIt shows we\u2019re making<br \/>\nprogress in the right direction.\u201d<o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=MsoBodyText>The Knights have benefited from a weak schedule so far\u2014three<br \/>\nI-<span class=GramE>A<\/span> opponents with a combined 4-8 record and a I-AA<br \/>\nteam, but it wasn\u2019t too long ago that they couldn\u2019t beat anyone.<o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=MsoBodyText>Much of the success can be credited to <span class=SpellE>Schiano<\/span><br \/>\nand <span class=SpellE>RB<\/span> Ray Rice, who ranks fourth in the nation in<br \/>\nrushing yards per game (151) and T-3<sup>rd<\/sup> in scoring (13.5 ppg). <o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=MsoBodyText>The opportunistic defense can also be attributed to the<br \/>\nScarlet Knights\u2019 success. <st1:place>Rutgers<\/st1:place> has forced turnovers<br \/>\non 13 different occasions\u2014<span class=GramE>good<\/span> for second in the<br \/>\nnation.<o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=MsoBodyText>Recap: It was another good week for the Big East. The<br \/>\nconference\u2019s teams went 6-2 overall, which has jolted their non-conference<br \/>\nrecord to 22-7. The only losing team in the conference is <st1:City><st1:place>Cincinnati<\/st1:place><\/st1:City><br \/>\n(1-3), which has lost to a pair of ranked teams\u2014<st1:place><st1:PlaceName>Ohio<\/st1:PlaceName><br \/>\n<st1:PlaceType>State<\/st1:PlaceType><\/st1:place> and Virginia Tech.<o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=MsoBodyText>Defensive Cardinals: With Brian <span class=SpellE>Brohm<\/span><br \/>\nand Michael Bush going down with injuries, it has been the defense that has<br \/>\nanswered the call for <st1:City><st1:place>Louisville<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>.<br \/>\nThrough four games, the Cardinals have allowed an average of 52 yards per game<br \/>\non the ground\u2014sixth in the nation. The two ranked opponents that remain on<br \/>\nCoach Bobby <span class=SpellE>Petrino\u2019s<\/span> schedule are run-happy <st1:place>Rutgers<\/st1:place><br \/>\nand <st1:State><st1:place>West Virginia<\/st1:place><\/st1:State>. <st1:State><st1:place>West<br \/>\nVirginia<\/st1:place><\/st1:State>\u2019s squad ranks No. 3 in rushing offense,<br \/>\naveraging 300 yards per game.<o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=MsoBodyText>New Beginnings: <st1:City><st1:place>Syracuse<\/st1:place><\/st1:City><br \/>\nended its 11-game losing streak two weeks ago with a 31-21 win over <st1:State><st1:place>Illinois<\/st1:place><\/st1:State>.<br \/>\nThe <st1:City><st1:place>Orange<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> began a winning streak<br \/>\nSaturday after knocking off Miami of Ohio 34-14. Greg Robinson\u2019s squad has been<br \/>\nstellar putting pressure on opposing quarterbacks. The <st1:City><st1:place>Orange<\/st1:place><\/st1:City><br \/>\n<span class=GramE>have<\/span> sacked opponents 19 times, tying them for first<br \/>\nin the nation with <st1:place><st1:PlaceName>Arizona<\/st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType>State<\/st1:PlaceType><\/st1:place>.<o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=MsoBodyText>A Look Ahead: <st1:place>Rutgers<\/st1:place> opens<br \/>\nconference play this week at <st1:place>South Florida<\/st1:place> (<st1:place>Rutgers<\/st1:place><br \/>\nis -4 at WagerWeb.com).
