The Panthers looked to be markedly improved from last
\nseason\u2019s team that went 5-6 when they easily handled Virginia<\/st1:place><\/st1:State>
\n38-13 in their opener Saturday. They mixed the run and pass better than they
\ndid last season, and their defense looked faster and more athletic. That\u2019s the
\nnext challenge for these Panthers (1-0) — win away from Pittsburgh<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>.
\nLast year\u2019s team went 0-5 on the road, including losses by a combined 54 points
\nto Louisville<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> and West
\nVirginia<\/st1:place><\/st1:State> in their final two road games. Pitt hasn\u2019t
\nwon on the road since beating South Florida<\/st1:place> and Notre
\nDame in its final two road games in 2004, Walt Harris\u2019 last season as the
\nPanthers\u2019 coach. Among last season\u2019s losses were a 16-10 overtime defeat at Ohio<\/st1:PlaceName>
\nU.\u2014also on a Friday night during the second weekend of the season\u2014and a 7-6
\nloss to Nebraska<\/st1:place><\/st1:State>. The Panthers
\ndidn\u2019t have much trouble in handling Cincinnati<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>
\nlast season, winning 38-20. The Bearcats, 4-7 overall and 2-5 in the Big East
\nlast season, beat Eastern Kentucky<\/st1:place> 31-0 in their opener
