\ntwo mediocre performances. Grossman has completed 10 of 25 passes for 130
\nyards, no touchdowns and 1 interception, while nine-year veteran Brian Griese
\nis 8 of 9 for 150 yards with 3 touchdowns and no interceptions, playing with
\nand against second-stringers.<\/span><\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n

Four starters, including running back Cedric
\nBenson (shoulder), safety Mike Brown (Achilles), fullback Bryan Johnson
\n(hamstring) and cornerback Nate<\/span> Vasher<\/span>
\n(back), already have been declared out of Friday\u2019s game.<\/span><\/span> A
\nfifth starter, defensive tackle Ian Scott (knee), is doubtful. Defensive

\noffense to a 10-0 halftime lead in Sunday\u2019s win over the 49ers, and backup
\nAndrew Walter turned in a pretty nifty performance himself. Walter finished the
\ngame with eight completions in 10 attempts for 99 yards, leading two
\nsecond-half scoring drives that put away the Raiders\u2019 23-7 victory. Brooks
\nappeared to secure his grip on the role as No. 1 quarterback in what is
\nbecoming a two-man show. All in all, it was an impressive showing on both sides
\nof the ball, but a particular step forward for an offense that has had its
\nshare of misfires. \u201cWinning is a part of what we do … it creates good habits,\u201d
\ncoach<\/span> Art Shell said. \u201cEven though we won three games
\n… there are a lot of mistakes we have to take care of.\u201d The improvement on
\noffense was seen all the way down the depth chart with the second- and
\nthird-string players holding their own. Shell acknowledged that the
\nperformances in Sunday night\u2019s game could force some difficult decisions when
\nit comes time to begin trimming the roster to get to the 53-man regular-season
\nlimit. Strong safety Michael Huff, the team\u2019s No. 1 draft pick this year who
\nturned his left ankle on the infield dirt in Sunday night\u2019s game, probably will

The Raiders enter Friday night\u2019s exhibition against the
\nDetroit Lions having won their first three preseason games for the first time
\nsince coach Art Shell was a starting tackle on the 1976 team that ended up
\nwinning Oakland\u2019s first Super Bowl. The Raiders beat Philadelphia<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>
\nand Minnesota<\/st1:place><\/st1:State> in the first two preseason
\ngames despite struggling offensively. With improved play from the offensive
\nline and efficient passing from Aaron Brooks and Andrew Walter, the Raiders put
\ntogether a more complete effort in a 23-7 victory over the San
\nFrancisco<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> 49ers last Sunday and hope to build off that
\nperformance when they face the Lions. The Raiders have won just 13 games the
\nlast three seasons, the worst stretch since Al Davis came aboard in 1963 to
\ncoach and eventually own the team.<\/p>\n
