Quarterback Daunte<\/span> Culpepper is
\nexpected to play longer in Saturday\u2019s Dolphins preseason game at Tampa<\/st1:PlaceName>

\ndefensive end Jason Taylor should see his first action of the preseason. That
\nseems uncomplicated, in part, because Dolphins coach Nick Saban<\/span>
\non Thursday clarified his philosophy for using his starters in the preseason. \u201cWe
\nplay the guys a certain amount of plays in the first game, and we usually build
\non that,\u201d Saban<\/span> said. \u201cAnd we will build on that
\nagainst Tampa<\/st1:PlaceName> Bay<\/st1:PlaceType><\/st1:place>,
\nto some degree. Starters will play a little bit longer. \u201cSo if they played 12
\nto 15 plays last time, they\u2019ll play a third more plays this time. It\u2019s not
\netched in stone, but they\u2019ll get a little more work.\u201d Saban<\/span>
\nthen said that players who participated in six to eight plays last week would
\nplay about 12 to 14 this week. Saban<\/span> said he was not
\nreferring to any specific players, but Culpepper took part in six plays against
\nJacksonville<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> in the preseason
\nopener. Saban<\/span> makes the ultimate decision about
\nwhether players play and how much. He apparently has made that decision about
\nTaylor and receiver Marty Booker, who also missed the preseason opener because
\nof a calf strain. \u201cThere\u2019s a few guys,\u201d Saban<\/span> said, \u201cthat
\nhave been practicing that didn\u2019t play in the last game that will play in this
\ngame as long as they continue to make progress and don\u2019t have any setbacks
\nbetween now and then.\u201d Linebacker Zach Thomas, like most starters, will see his
\nplaying time increase this weekend.<\/p>\n
