But if Palmer doesn\u2019t play any<br \/>\npreseason games, he won\u2019t start against the Chiefs to begin the season,<br \/>\nalthough he said Palmer continues to get the majority of snaps. They will also<br \/>\nmake a call later this week on whether defensive tackle Sam Adams can play in <st1:City><st1:place>Buffalo<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>.<br \/>\nSafety Anthony Mitchell (sprained foot) is out for Friday while left tackle<br \/>\nLevi Jones (sprained knee) is day-to-day. Linebacker David Pollack (hamstring)<br \/>\nand cornerback <span class=SpellE>Deltha<\/span> O\u2019Neal (hand) are defensive<br \/>\nstarters who should be ready to play after missing Sunday night\u2019s game,<br \/>\naccording to Lewis. Wide receivers Antonio Chatman (groin) and Bennie <span\nclass=SpellE>Brazell<\/span> (hamstring) are also going to be ready to make<br \/>\ntheir Bengals debuts after missing the opener. Defensive lineman Jonathan <span\nclass=SpellE>Fanene<\/span> (hamstring) could be ready for his first action, as<br \/>\ncould cornerback Greg Brooks, day-to-day with a slight hamstring pull. <o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<h1>Lions-Browns<\/h1>\n<p class=MsoNormal><st1:City><st1:place>Detroit<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> News<\/p>\n<p class=MsoBodyText>Charles Rogers will have one less opportunity to make an<br \/>\nimpression in his battle to win a job with the Detroit Lions. Rogers, one of<br \/>\nseveral receivers competing for playing time and roster spots, will not play in<br \/>\nFriday night\u2019s second exhibition at <st1:City><st1:place>Cleveland<\/st1:place><\/st1:City><br \/>\nbecause of a sore knee. Coach Rod <span class=SpellE>Marinelli<\/span> said<br \/>\nafter Thursday\u2019s practice that <st1:City><st1:place>Rogers<\/st1:place><\/st1:City><br \/>\nwill not play. <st1:City><st1:place>Rogers<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> caught one<br \/>\npass for seven yards in last week\u2019s game with <span class=SpellE>Denver.Dan<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=SpellE>Orlovsky<\/span> will be the No. 2 quarterback for the second<br \/>\nstraight game with Josh <span class=SpellE>McCown<\/span> in the No. 3 spot, <span\nclass=SpellE>Marinelli<\/span> said. Rob Smith,<br \/>\nburied deep on the depth chart when camp began, suffered a sever ankle sprain<br \/>\nin the preseason game against the Eagles and is out indefinitely. The injuries<br \/>\nwere bad enough. Then word broke Tuesday that Alonzo Ephraim will be suspended<br \/>\nfor the first four games by the NFL for a substance abuse violation. <\/p>\n<h1>Chargers-Bears<\/h1>\n<p class=MsoNormal><st1:City><st1:place>Chicago<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> Tribune<o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=MsoBodyText>Wednesday was spent with only Rex Grossman and Brian<br \/>\nGriese taking snaps, virtually all against \u201cthe cards\u201d for San Diego\u2019s defense,<br \/>\nwhich presents primarily a three-man front. Drills were at about half speed and<br \/>\nboth quarterbacks were smooth delivering the ball interception-free. Whoever becomes the starter for the regular<br \/>\nseason opener Sept. 10, the Bears need a better performance from quarterback<br \/>\nRex Grossman as they tune up. Grossman was 3-of-11 for 47 yards in a 28-14 loss<br \/>\nto the <st1:City><st1:place>San Francisco<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> 49ers last<br \/>\nFriday night. His fumble was returned for a touchdown. Grossman is expected to<br \/>\nplay the first half. The Chargers will be watching the continuing development<br \/>\nof first-year starter Philip Rivers, who was cool and crisp in a win against <st1:City><st1:place>Green<br \/>\nBay<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> in the exhibition opener last Saturday. Among the <st1:City><st1:place>San<br \/>\nDiego<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> starters not expected to play are running back<br \/>\nLaDainian Tomlinson, who rarely plays in exhibitions, and linebacker Donnie<br \/>\nEdwards, who has a bad back.
