The Preseason Game of the Year on <\/span><\/font>Detroit<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>, an underdog, wins outright. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The strongest NFL preseason release by Stevie Vincent ever was on the Titans and Cavaliers over. The world’s best handicappers are having an even better year than usual, but luckily for the sportsbooks, the sharps are having a horrid year. There is a reason why sharps win more while squares lose more<\/a> than ever. <\/p>\n

Colliding on the gridiron . . .<\/span><\/font><\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n

The lone NFL preseason game on Sunday is a good one – the Bears and new quarterback Jay Cutler will travel to <\/span><\/font>Denver<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> to take on the Broncos. The oddsmakers have the Broncos pegged as 2.5-point home favorites for Sunday’s game, even though they are 0-2 so far during the preseason. Cutler’s Bears enter the game at 1-1, as they beat the Giants 17-3 in Week 2 exhibition action. Cutler went 8-of-13 for 121 yards passing and a touchdown for Chicago<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> that day.<\/p>\n

Meeting up on the diamond . . .<\/span><\/font><\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n

It’ll be Jair<\/span> Jurrjens<\/span> (10-8, 2.91 ERA) vs. Joe Blanton (8-6, 3.88 ERA) as the Braves meet the Phillies on Sunday Night Baseball this week. Righthander<\/span> Jurrjens<\/span> had to settle for a no-decision against the Padres last time out, allowing just one earned run over his 7 2-3 innings of work. Righthander<\/span> Blanton is coming off a no-decision as well; he gave up three earned runs over six innings against the Pirates last time out. Philadelphia<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> is 2-3 over Blanton’s last five starts.<\/p>\n

Also on tap in the National League on Sunday: the Dodgers at Cincinnati, San Diego at Florida, Pittsburgh at Milwaukee, Washington at St. Louis, the Mets at the Cubs, Houston at Arizona, and Colorado at San Francisco. Jason Hammel<\/span> (8-7, 4.43 ERA) will take on Matt Cain (12-4, 2.39 ERA) in that last matchup. Righthander<\/span> Hammel<\/span> has given up three or fewer earned runs in each of his last five outings. Righthander<\/span> Cain hasn’t been able to pick up a victory since July 24.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Roy Halladay (13-7, 3.03 ERA) will pitch at Fenway<\/span><\/st1:PlaceName> Park<\/st1:PlaceType><\/st1:place> on Sunday against the Red Sox and Jon Lester (10-7, 3.60 ERA). Righthander<\/span> Halladay was knocked around by Tampa<\/st1:PlaceName> Bay<\/st1:PlaceType><\/st1:place> last time out (seven earned runs in six innings), and he was beaten by the BoSox<\/span> on August 19. Lefthander Lester has given up three or fewer earned runs in nine of his past 10 trips to the mound. Lester got an easy win over the Jays on August 20, allowing one earned run over eight innings.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere on Sunday’s American League schedule it’ll be the White Sox at the Yankees, Cleveland at Baltimore<\/st1:City>, Texas<\/st1:State><\/st1:place> at Minnesota<\/st1:place><\/st1:State>, Oakland<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> at the Angels, Kansas City<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> at Seattle<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>, and Tampa<\/st1:PlaceName> Bay<\/st1:PlaceType><\/st1:place> at Detroit<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>. The Rays will give the ball to righthander<\/span> Jeff Niemann<\/span> (12-5, 3.87 ERA) in that contest, while the Tigers send righthander<\/span> Justin Verlander (14-7, 3.38 ERA) to the mound. Verlander is coming off a shaky win over the Angels, surrendering four earned runs over 5 2-3 innings.<\/p>\n

The drivers of Formula 1 will remain in Europe<\/st1:place> this weekend for Sunday’s Belgian Grand Prix. Rubens Barrichello<\/span> took the checkered flag last time out, winning the European Grand Prix in Spain<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>. Lewis Hamilton and Kimi<\/span> Raikkonen<\/span> finished second and third at that event, while points leader Jenson Button was seventh. Button now has a 72-54 lead on Barrichello<\/span> in the drivers championship.<\/p>\n

Tipping off on the hardwood  . . .<\/span><\/font><\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n

Finally, it’s Minnesota<\/st1:place><\/st1:State> at Washington<\/st1:place><\/st1:State>, Chicago<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> at New York<\/st1:place><\/st1:State>, and Connecticut<\/st1:place><\/st1:State> at Los Angeles<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> in WNBA<\/span> action on Sunday. The Sparks<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> fell to 14-14 straight-up and 14-14 against-the-spread on the season with a 98-90 loss to Phoenix<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> in their last contest. Los Angeles<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> was missing guards Kristi Harrower and Candace Parker in that defeat due to personal reasons; Parker is expected to be back in action on Sunday. Los Angeles<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> was beaten 82-71 by Connecticut<\/st1:place><\/st1:State> on the road on July 14.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
