The College World Series odds<\/a> are in full swing and we’ve already seen a few surprises after the first few games. What will Tuesday’s action bring? Let’s make some picks.

<\/span><\/b>The College World Series odds seemed tilted in North Carolina’s favor before the round of eight began this weekend but things didn’t start as planned for the Tar Heels. Meanwhile, the so-called Cinderella team Southern Miss didn’t show much magic in its first game. Something has to give when Goliath challenges David in an elimination match on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

In their College World Series betting opener, the Tar Heels got their hearts broken against fellow contender <\/span><\/font>Arizona<\/st1:PlaceName> State<\/st1:PlaceType><\/st1:place>. Kole<\/span> Calhoon<\/span> hit a three-run homer in the top of the 10th<\/sup> inning to seal North Carolina’s fate. The Tar Heels’ supposedly potent offense needs to bounce back if North Carolina<\/st1:place><\/st1:State> wants to keep its tournament hopes alive and remain a popular sportsbook pick. Josh Spence shut down a North Carolina<\/st1:place><\/st1:State> offense that was average 10 runs per game and hitting .401 in the postseason. Slugger Dustin Ackley, whom the Seattle Mariners took second overall in last week’s MLB draft, needs to show why the Mariners think he’ll boost their MLB odds<\/a>. He had two hits against ASU<\/span> but couldn’t drive in any runs and struck out in the ninth.<\/p>\n

Thankfully for the Tar Heels, they get to face the underdog Southern Mississippi<\/st1:place> next. Southern Miss is coming off a dismal game in which its pitchers threw 94 of 171 pitches for strikes and walked nine batters\u2014including the winning run in the bottom of the ninth. The UNC<\/span> bats won’t stay dormant for long. <\/p>\n

<\/span><\/b>Thanks to some smart coaching\u2014manager Pat Murphy held Mike Leake<\/span> back and went with Josh Spence in the tourney opener\u2014Arizona<\/st1:place><\/st1:State> exploited a good matchup and scored a big win over North Carolina<\/st1:place><\/st1:State>. They should send Leake<\/span>, who went 16-1 this season, to the hill against Texas<\/st1:place><\/st1:State>. The Longhorns squeaked past plucky Southern Miss 7-6 but faced a pitching staff that couldn’t hit the plate that night. The story will be different against Arizona<\/st1:PlaceName> State<\/st1:PlaceType><\/st1:place>. Expect the Sun Devils to shoot Texas<\/st1:place><\/st1:State> down. If the game is close in the late innings, Texas<\/st1:place><\/st1:State> usually turns to Austin Wood, but who knows how what mental state he’ll be in after he blew a lead\u2014and almost the game\u2014against Southern Miss.<\/p>\n
