Duke is giving 7 points to No. 7 Texas, while Oklahoma<\/st1:place><\/st1:State> is favored by 6.5 points against No. 10 Michigan, and Memphis<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> has been tagged as a 9-point favorite against No. 10 Maryland, who knocked off Cal<\/st1:place><\/st1:State> on Thursday. The other three games on the NCAA Tournament schedule for Saturday are No. 5 Purdue vs. No. 4 Washington (-1) in the West, No. 6 UCLA vs. No. 3 Villanova (-1.5) in the East, and No. 12 Western Kentucky vs. No. 4 Gonzaga (-10) in the South. The Hilltoppers<\/span> pulled off a first-round upset for the second tourney in a row, knocking off No. 5 Illinois 76-72 behind 17 points from Steffphon<\/span> Pettigrew.<\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

The Hawks also grabbed a victory Thursday, getting 24 points from Joe Johnson in a 95-87 win over <\/span><\/font>Dallas<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>.<\/p>\n

The Magic will host the Knicks on Saturday night, while <\/span><\/font>Boston<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> is at Memphis<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>, and the Lakers will take on the Bulls in Chicago<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>. As well, it’ll be Indiana<\/st1:place><\/st1:State> at Charlotte<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>, Portland<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> at Milwaukee<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>, and Washington<\/st1:place><\/st1:State> at Phoenix<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>. The Suns won a high-scoring game against Philly on Wednesday, as Shaquille O’Neal tossed in 26 points and grabbed 11 boards in a 126-116 victory. Steve Nash had 24 points.<\/p>\n

Taking a trip around the rink . . .<\/span><\/font><\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n

Alexander Ovechkin and the Capitals will be on the road on Saturday night to take on the division-rival Hurricanes in one of eight games on the NHL schedule. The Caps and Canes have already met twice in the month of March in <\/span><\/font>Washington<\/st1:place><\/st1:State>, with each team picking up one victory. Ovechkin scored his 50th<\/sup> goal of the season in Washington<\/st1:place><\/st1:State>‘s 5-2 win over the Lightning on Thursday night.<\/p>\n

The Stars and Sharks will meet in <\/span><\/font>San Jose<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> in the only matinee on the NHL’s schedule for Saturday (4:00pm ET<\/st1:time>), while the evening slate also includes Toronto<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> at Montreal<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>, Buffalo<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> at the Rangers, the Islanders at Ottawa<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>, Columbus at Florida<\/st1:place><\/st1:State>, Atlanta<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> at Tampa<\/st1:PlaceName> Bay<\/st1:PlaceType><\/st1:place>, and Vancouver<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> at Phoenix<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>. The first of two World Baseball Classic semifinal matchups<\/span> is set for Saturday night, with Korea taking on Venezuela at Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium. The Venezuelans won Pool 2 with a 10-6 victory over the <\/span><\/font>United States<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> on Wednesday, while Korea<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> fell 6-2 to Japan<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> in the Pool 1 final on Thursday night.
