There are a pair<\/span> of college football games on the schedule for Thursday night, while the Phillies and Rays play Game 2 of the World Series. Here’s your Daily Sports Roundup.<\/p>\n

The Gridiron Spotlight<\/strong><\/p>\n

West Virginia<\/st1:PLACE><\/st1:STATE> will host Auburn<\/st1:PLACE><\/st1:CITY> in one of two college football games on Thursday night (college football odds<\/a>), and neither of those teams have performed well for their supporters this season. The Mountaineers beat Syracuse<\/st1:PLACE><\/st1:CITY> 17-6 last time out, but that margin wasn’t big enough to keep them from dropping to 1-4 against-the-spread on the season (they’re 4-2 straight-up). The Tigers are even worse at 1-6 ATS (4-3 SU), and they lost 25-22 to Arkansas<\/st1:PLACE><\/st1:STATE> in their last game. West Virginia<\/st1:PLACE><\/st1:STATE> is pegged as a 3-point home favorite, with a total of 38.<\/p>\n

In the other game it’s New Mexico<\/st1:PLACE><\/st1:STATE> at Air Force in a battle between second-tier Mountain West teams. The Lobos absolutely crushed San Diego<\/st1:PLACENAME> State<\/st1:PLACETYPE><\/st1:PLACE> 70-7 last time out to improve to 4-4 (5-3 ATS) on the season. The Falcons are coming off a slim 29-28 win over UNLV which pushed them to 5-2 (4-2 ATS). Air Force is listed as a 5-point favorite.<\/p>\n

Other Notable Events<\/strong><\/p>\n

Stevie Vincent wins World Series Game 1 as he has the Phillies. That’s not bad for a handicapper who is 16-3 in college football betting. <\/p>\n

It’ll be Brett Myers versus James Shields in Game 2 of the World Series on Thursday (Purchase MLB playoff tickets<\/a>) night. Myers picked up a victory against the Dodgers in the NLCS in his last outing, but it was an ugly performance – five earned runs on six hits and four walks over just five innings of work. The righthander<\/span> gave up just two runs in his NLDS<\/span> win over Milwaukee<\/st1:PLACE><\/st1:CITY>.<\/p>\n

Shields was<\/span> tagged with the loss twice in the ALCS<\/span> against the Red Sox, although he wasn’t pounded in either outing. The righthander<\/span> allowed two earned runs on six hits over 7 1-3 innings in his first start against Boston<\/st1:PLACE><\/st1:CITY>, and then surrendered three earned runs on nine hits in 5 2-3 innings. Tampa<\/st1:PLACE><\/st1:CITY> only scored two runs over those two games.<\/p>\n

The Rest of the Schedule<\/strong><\/p>\n

The puck will drop on seven games in the National Hockey League on Thursday night, with the top matchup in Minnesota<\/st1:PLACE><\/st1:STATE> where the Wild will host the Sabres<\/span>. Those two teams are a combined 9-0-1 so far this season. Also on the NHL’s schedule: <\/span>Toronto<\/span><\/st1:PLACE><\/st1:CITY> at <\/span>Boston<\/span><\/st1:PLACE><\/st1:CITY>, <\/span>Dallas<\/span><\/st1:PLACE><\/st1:CITY> at the Islanders, <\/span>Calgary<\/span><\/st1:PLACE><\/st1:CITY> at <\/span>Nashville<\/span><\/st1:PLACE><\/st1:CITY>, <\/span>Carolina<\/span><\/st1:PLACE><\/st1:CITY> at <\/span>Pittsburgh<\/span><\/st1:PLACE><\/st1:CITY>, and <\/span>Edmonton<\/span><\/st1:PLACE><\/st1:CITY> at <\/span>Colorado<\/span><\/st1:PLACE><\/st1:STATE>.<\/span> As well, the Caps will hit the ice in Phoenix<\/st1:PLACE><\/st1:CITY> to close the night.<\/p>\n
