The Padres are going nowhere this season, even in the weak NL West division. That hasn’t helped ace Jake Peavy<\/span> in the win-loss column, as he’s 9-8 overall and the team is just 4-6 in his last 10 trips to the mound. However, the righthander<\/span> gave up more than three earned runs in just one of those 10 contests, lowering his ERA on the season to 2.61. Peavy<\/span> faced the Diamondbacks back on July 5, and took no chances in securing the win – he held Arizona<\/st1:PLACE><\/st1:STATE> scoreless on three hits over seven innings.<\/o:P><\/p>\n

Peavy’s<\/span> opponent in Wednesday night’s contest will be D-Backs second banana Dan Haren<\/span>, who pitches in the shadow of Cy<\/span> Young candidate Brandon Webb. Haren<\/span> has picked up the victory in four of his last five starts, and he’s coming off a strong outing against the Rockies<\/st1:PLACE> (two earned runs on seven hits over eight innings) which lowered his ERA to only 2.96. The righthander<\/span> took on the Padres on July 4 and was the hard-luck loser after allowing just two earned runs on seven hits over seven innings.<\/o:P><\/p>\n

Non-event of the day .<\/span><\/strong> . .<\/span><\/strong><\/o:P><\/span><\/h1>\n

We go from Peavy<\/span> vs. Haren<\/span> to . . . Robertson vs. Millwood. Detroit<\/st1:PLACE><\/st1:CITY>‘s Nate<\/span> Robertson is 7-9 on the season with a 5.87 ERA, while Texas<\/st1:PLACE><\/st1:STATE>‘ Kevin Millwood is 6-7 with a 5.58 ERA so far this year. Those two veteran hurlers will try to keep the ball in the park on Wednesday night when the Rangers host the Tigers. Detroit<\/st1:PLACE><\/st1:CITY> has lost six of Robertson’s past 10 outings, and Texas<\/st1:PLACE><\/st1:STATE> has taken the loss in each of Millwood’s past four starts. <\/o:P><\/p>\n

Minnesota<\/st1:PLACE><\/st1:STATE>‘s Francisco Liriano (3-3, 4.97 ERA) will try to add to Oakland<\/st1:PLACE><\/st1:CITY>‘s woes when he takes on Dallas Braden (3-2, 4.50 ERA) on Wednesday night. Also on the American League schedule: Seattle at the White Sox, Boston at Baltimore, Kansas City at Cleveland, the Yankees at Toronto, and the Angels at Tampa Bay.<\/o:P><\/p>\n

The Mets and Braves will clash in New York<\/st1:PLACE><\/st1:STATE> on Wednesday, with Mike Pelfrey (11-8, 3.91 ERA) going up against Jair<\/span> Jurrjens<\/span> (11-8, 3.15 ERA).
