Check out some news and notes and computer trends for
\nFriday NCAA football and the final day of NFL preseason football. Normally
\nthese reports are separate, but with just two games tonight, we will combine
\nthe two. Let\u2019s start out with the computer trends, where all records are
\nagainst the spread unless of course, over\/under is specified. <\/o:p><\/p>\n

CFB<\/o:p><\/span><\/h1>\n
Temple-Army<\/o:p><\/span><\/h2>\n
Trends: Temple<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>
\nis 6-2 their last eight against Independents. Army is 3-8 on fake surfaces and
\nthe Black Knights have gone over 8-2 on turf. <\/o:p><\/p>\n
Notes: Army debuts their new turf and they have not won a
\nhome opener since 1996. Army must replace four of their top five tacklers from
\nlast year. This could be a high scoring game as each team does return their
\nstarting quarterback.\u00a0 <\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n
SMU<\/span><\/span>-Rice<\/o:p><\/span><\/h2>\n
SMU<\/span> is 4-9 their last 13
\noverall. Rice has won 11-of-14 conference games and the Owls have exceeded the
\ntotal at a staggering 40-11 rate.\u00a0 <\/span>Rice
\nis 39-17 in conference play going back even further. <\/o:p><\/p>\n
Throw out the SMU<\/span> game films
\nfrom previous years and June Jones makes his debut as the Mustangs coach. Jones
\nof course is the man who rebuilt his alma mater Hawaii<\/st1:place><\/st1:State>.
\nWow, Rice\u2019s defense allowed more than 42 points per game. Rice has won nine
\nstraight at home in the series. <\/o:p><\/p>\n
NFL<\/o:p><\/span><\/h1>\n
Chargers-49ers<\/o:p><\/span><\/h2>\n
The Niners<\/span> starters will only
\nplay a series. No surprise, but the Chargers will certainly be without
\nLaDainian Tomlinson and Shawne<\/span> Merriman. San
\nFrancisco<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> color analyst Gary Plummer claims this game
\nis much more important to San Francisco<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>.
\n<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\nstarting quarterback JaMarcus Russell sits. Andrew Walter starts behind center
\nand Marques Tuiasosopo follows. <\/o:p><\/p>\n
Broncos-Cardinals<\/o:p><\/span><\/h2>\n
Kurt Warner starts at quarterback Friday for the Rams. For
\nthose who love to bet on teams with quarterback battles, this game is for you.
\nHead coach Ken Whisenhunt has not said whether Warner on Matt Leinart starts
\nopening week. Both are expected to get snaps behind the starting offensive
\nline. <\/o:p><\/p>\n
