They correctly state that a favorite source of ours, Stassen.com<\/a> declared Phil Steele to have the\u00a0most accurate publication in comparing preseason predictions to the\u00a0end-of-season polls.<\/p>\n

What is falsely presumed is that the other periodicals\u00a0draw no distinction between \u201cpreseason polls\u201d and \u201cpostseason predictions\u201d.<\/p>\n

This season is a perfect illustration. Though we rate no\u00a0not rank <\/a>teams, our preseason ratings agree with the USA Today preseason\u00a0poll that has Georgia No. 1. Does this mean as per Stassen\u2019s<\/span>criterion, we are projecting that they will be No. 1 at the end of the season? Absolutely not.<\/span> Just wait a Dawg <\/span>gone minute.<\/p>\n

In the dog eat Dawg<\/span> world of the\u00a0SEC, the Bulldogs schedule includes back-to-back games against two other\u00a0serious BCS\u00a0Championship<\/a> contenders, Floridaand LSU. The game against the Tigers is in Baton Rouge\u00a0and of course against the revenge-seeking Gators, it\u2019s in the so-called\u00a0\u201cneutral\u201d state of Florida.<\/p>\n

They also travel cross country for a brutal non-conference\u00a0test at No. 16 Arizona State, play at dangerous South Carolina (27th<\/sup>ranked based on \u201cothers receiving votes\u201d) and at cross-divisional Auburn. Even\u00a0if by some miracle they go undefeated in SEC play, their reward would be giving\u00a0rival Georgia Tech golden opportunity to play BCS spoiler, then a trip to the\u00a0SEC Championship game, which would likely be a rematch to the Tigers of LSU or Auburn.<\/p>\n

For 2008, if GodsTips converted our ratings to rankings,\u00a0we would have Georgia\u00a0our preseason No. 1. <\/span>In looking at the Dawgs<\/span> schedule however, Steele\u2019s prediction that they will\u00a0finish 9th<\/sup> is more likely.<\/p>\n

Putting side by side one magazine\u2019s preseason Top 25 to\u00a0another publication\u2019s projected post-bowl Top 25 is comparing apples to oranges.\u00a0Or perhaps more accurately, it\u2019s comparing Sugar, Rose, and Fiesta to Oranges.<\/p>\n
