Purdue gets just .4 more first downs per game but CMU gets<br \/>\n27.4 more yards per game on .4 more yards per play. The Boilermakers get 22.2<br \/>\nmore yards per game in the air. The biggest edge is on rushing yards per<br \/>\nattempt where the Chippewas get .9 more. While Central accumulates .2 more<br \/>\npassing yards per attempt, it\u2019s Purdue earning .3 more passing yards per<br \/>\nreception. <\/p>\n<p class=MsoBodyText>Purdue\u2019s defensive superiority is across the board, but<br \/>\nnot by dominating margins. They allow 3.4 fewer first downs per game on 64.7<br \/>\nfewer total yards. They also allow .8 less yards per play. The biggest upper<br \/>\nhand is with pass defense, allowing 1.7 less passing yards per attempt and 1.3 less<br \/>\npassing yards per reception and a passing percentage against of 7.9 better than<br \/>\nCMU allows. In turnovers and rushing yards per attempt the teams are nearly<br \/>\neven. <\/p>\n<p class=MsoBodyText>CMU went 7-2 straight up down the stretch and <st1:date\nYear=\"2001\" Day=\"3\" Month=\"5\">5-3-1<\/st1:date> against the spread during that<br \/>\nspan. They also exceeded the total in seven of their last eight.
