This is the latest in a series of a Godgepodge\u00a0<\/span>of sports betting strategy and other sports handicapping and gaming issues.<\/p>\n

Does the Commissioner Want to Send a Stern\u00a0Message?<\/span><\/h1>\n

Though David Stern was non-committal on how the referee\u00a0Tim Donaghy betting scandal would affect Las Vegas\u2019\u00a0bid to get an NBA team, most experts agree<\/span> the fiasco\u00a0will be the death knell for Sin City\u2019s\u00a0bid for a franchise.<\/p>\n

Stern has admitted it is his understanding the bets were\u00a0placed illegally and not through Vegas. If Stern were genuine about stopping\u00a0point-shaving, he would ban NBA games being played in cities where illegal sports betting is\u00a0<\/span>rampant: Philadelphia,\u00a0New York and Boston.\u00a0Better yet, Stern could campaign for complete legalization, where a legitimate\u00a0activity need not be forced underground and into the underworld.<\/p>\n

Methinks Stern will choose the hypocritical road.<\/p>\n

Stevie Vincent of OffshoreInsiders.com<\/a>\u00a0is the top expert when it comes to evaluating pitchers. Vincent says starting\u00a0pitching is the one certainty because gamblers can specify pitchers, thus it is\u00a0the easiest to exploit proposition bet.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can\u2019t specify a bet is cancelled if a clean-up hitter\u00a0is scratched. We don\u2019t know beyond\u00a0reproach how the pinch hitter\/relief pitcher chess game will transpire. But we\u00a0do know who the starting pitchers will be.\u201d<\/p>\n

He elaborates that pinch hitters and the bullpen can\u00a0determine full-game bets, but starting pitching is the primary decider on five-inning\u00a0wagers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The most popular futures bet is on who will win the Super\u00a0Bowl. We say the San Diego Chargers. Only baseball\u2019s Bobby Cox and perhaps the\u00a0NBA\u2019s George Karl have consistently done less with more in the postseason than\u00a0disposed Bolt coach Marty Schottenheimer. A clear case of addition by\u00a0subtraction, we expect new coach Norv<\/span> Turner to take\u00a0the already loaded Chargers to the Promised Land.<\/p>\n
