We<br \/>\nsubscribe to the John Wooden adage of \u201cgive me talent\u201d. That is so much truer<br \/>\nnow than it was then.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>  <\/span>Wooden, of course,<br \/>\ncoached when freshman were not eligible and when star players did not go to the<br \/>\nNBA early.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoBodyText><span style='mso-bookmark:OLE_LINK1'>This is not to say<br \/>\nthough, that experience is irrelevant. Having participated successfully in the<br \/>\nbig games is a significant factor when fused with talent. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoBodyText><span style='mso-bookmark:OLE_LINK1'>As a point of fact, UCLA<br \/>\nand <\/span><st1:State><st1:place><span style='mso-bookmark:OLE_LINK1'>Kansas<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:State><span\nstyle='mso-bookmark:OLE_LINK1'> have no seniors among their top eight players<br \/>\nin terms of minutes played. <\/span><st1:place><st1:PlaceName><span\nstyle='mso-bookmark:OLE_LINK1'>Ohio<\/span><\/st1:PlaceName><span\nstyle='mso-bookmark:OLE_LINK1'> <\/span><st1:PlaceType><span style='mso-bookmark:\nOLE_LINK1'>State<\/span><\/st1:PlaceType><\/st1:place><span style='mso-bookmark:\nOLE_LINK1'> certainly depends a great deal on a mega-talented group of<br \/>\nfreshmen. <\/span><st1:State><st1:place><span style='mso-bookmark:OLE_LINK1'>North<br \/>\nCarolina<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:State><span style='mso-bookmark:OLE_LINK1'><br \/>\ntwo years ago lost every starter from a national championship team and now<br \/>\nseven of their top eight players are freshman or sophomores. <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoBodyText><span style='mso-bookmark:OLE_LINK1'>But avoiding the<br \/>\ntemptation to go with a big under<\/span>dog based on the sole fact of seniority<br \/>\nis one reality the smart player has to be aware of, especially this time of the<br \/>\nyear. It\u2019s a factor that gets overanalyzed come conference play and even more<br \/>\nso in the Big Dance and NIT. <o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=MsoBodyText>The fact is that squads with young players in key roles<br \/>\ngenerally develop the most as the year goes on. <o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=MsoBodyText>That being said, here is a \u201cwe report, you decide\u201d list of<br \/>\nthe most and least experienced of the top teams in the country.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>  <\/span>You be fair and balance the upside\/experience<br \/>\nratio as we approach when the part of the season when the pressure cooker heats<br \/>\nup. <o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=MsoBodyText>We already referenced above, UCLA, <st1:State><st1:place>Kansas<\/st1:place><\/st1:State><br \/>\nand <st1:State><st1:place>North Carolina<\/st1:place><\/st1:State> are dependant<br \/>\non youth. <o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=MsoBodyText>Among the current Top 10 teams, <st1:State><st1:place>Florida<\/st1:place><\/st1:State><br \/>\nhas two seniors and four juniors.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>  <\/span>The<br \/>\nGators beg the question of what kind of experience does a team have? <st1:State><st1:place>Florida<\/st1:place><\/st1:State><br \/>\nof course has the encounter of winning it all. That is quite the far cry from<br \/>\nthe proverbial and inevitable mid-major senior-heavy team that becomes the chic<br \/>\ndark horse in the NCAA tournament because they start four or five three and<br \/>\nfour-year players who have never gotten beyond the second round of the Big<br \/>\nDance. <o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=MsoBodyText>Again, all numbers preceding and following are centered on<br \/>\nthe top eight players based on minutes played.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'><br \/>\n<\/span><st1:State><st1:place>Wisconsin<\/st1:place><\/st1:State> has three<br \/>\nseniors and two juniors among their top eight.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'><br \/>\n<\/span>Only one input player is a freshman. <o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=MsoBodyText>Experience lovers: <st1:City><st1:place>Butler<\/st1:place><\/st1:City><br \/>\nis your team with three seniors and four juniors.
