The Vikings open<br \/>\nthe stretch against three-time defending Horizon League champion<br \/>\nUW-Milwaukee.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>  <\/span>Vikings have played better<br \/>\nthan their 6-11 overall and 0-4 league mark shows, owning the halftime lead in<br \/>\n12 of the 17 games this season. CSU is coming off a 65-53 loss at <st1:place><st1:PlaceName>UW-Green<\/st1:PlaceName><br \/>\n<st1:PlaceType>Bay<\/st1:PlaceType><\/st1:place> on Jan. 6, a game which saw the<br \/>\nVikings fall behind after having a 13-point halftime lead. UW-Milwaukee (4-13,<br \/>\n1-3) has struggled after losing all five starters off last year\u2019s 22-9 team.<br \/>\nThe Panthers split their two league games last week, including <span\nclass=GramE>a 65<\/span>-64 overtime win over <st1:City><st1:place>Detroit<\/st1:place><\/st1:City><br \/>\non Jan. 4. After using the same starting lineup and player rotation in the<br \/>\nfirst 11 games, the Vikings made some changes over the last five games to help<br \/>\noffset the loss of senior Victor Morris (9.7 ppg, 2.5 <span class=SpellE>apg<\/span>)<br \/>\nto a foot injury.<o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<h2><span style='font-size:12.0pt'>Bowling Green-Ohio<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span style='font-size:12.0pt'>Press Notes <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=MsoBodyText>If the first weekend is any indication (three games<br \/>\ndecided by a combined eight points), the battle for the MAC East title could<br \/>\nemerge as one of the best races in recent history. <st1:City><st1:place>Bowling<br \/>\n<span class=GramE>Green<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:City> and <st1:State><st1:place>Ohio<\/st1:place><\/st1:State><br \/>\nwill meet for the 119<sup>th<\/sup> time on Thursday night. <span class=SpellE>BGSU<\/span>,<br \/>\nthe most improved team in the MAC thus far, is 10-4 and 1-0 and coming off a<br \/>\n74-73 victory at home over <st1:City><st1:place>Buffalo<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>.<br \/>\n<st1:State><st1:place>Ohio<\/st1:place><\/st1:State>, also 10-4 and 1-0, defeated<br \/>\n<st1:City><st1:place>Akron<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> 77-72 last Saturday. A big<br \/>\nreason for the early season success for <span class=SpellE>BGSU<\/span> has been<br \/>\nthe improved defensive effort of the Falcons. Last year, <span class=SpellE>BGSU<\/span><br \/>\nallowed 71.4 points per game on 45.7% shooting from the field. This year, <span\nclass=SpellE>BGSU<\/span> leads the MAC in field goal percentage defense (38.9%)<br \/>\nand is fourth in scoring defense allowing 64.0 points per game. <st1:State><st1:place>Ohio<\/st1:place><\/st1:State><br \/>\nreturns three starters from last year\u2019s team and has several key performers<br \/>\nback from the 2005 MAC Tournament Championship team. <st1:City><st1:place>Akron<\/st1:place><\/st1:City><br \/>\ntransfer Bubba Walther has had an immediate impact averaging 15 points per<br \/>\ngame. Sophomore Jerome Tillman is averaging 14.8 points and 7.9 rebounds,<br \/>\njunior Leon Williams is contributing 14.4 points and 8.9 boards, and senior<br \/>\nWhitney Davis is averaging 12.2 points.<o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<h2><span style='font-size:12.0pt'>Washington-Stanford<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span style='font-size:12.0pt'>Press Notes<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=MsoBodyText>The Stanford men\u2019s basketball <span class=GramE>team (9-4,<br \/>\n1-2 Pac-10) return<\/span> to the Bay Area to host conference foe <st1:State><st1:place>Washington<\/st1:place><\/st1:State><br \/>\n(11-4, 1-3). The Cardinal are 2-2 since returning from the holiday break and<br \/>\nare coming off a hard fought road win (76-75) at Virginia.
